Mitsubishi Pajero 1994 2.8TD advice please.

Hi looking for a cheap run around has to be a 4x4 had a look at an automatic one today, 280,000kms drove pretty well apart from the fact that the auto would only take off in 2nd gear unless you manually select low then it would take off in 1st just fine, the changes seemed smooth enough for an old car, it is also worth noting that the rev counter worked inanimately. is this a minor fault or something more serious? thanks in advance.

It might be worth trying out another trans computer, the rev counter doesnt sound too serious. A good auto sparky should be able to sort it.

Thanks, so a good auto sparky should be able to tell me if it is infact the trans computer and not the trans? as per rev counter i thought that might be something to do with the fault to the trans, thanks again.

Rev counter problems for a Pajero is normal

Auto problems are normal for Mitsis too, will need transmission reconditioning.

Get it checked possible it has a failed tps on top of diesel pump which will tell auto to start in higher gear because it thinks it has more throttle than is needed. Quite often over looked and replaced after Trans has been overhauled or replaced

It uses the same transmission as Toyotas of the same era so it can't be all that bad.
