Drive sprocket formula?

red97, Aug 20, 4:33pm
Hi
Does anyone know a formula for setting out a sprocket
Im making a drive sprocket for 160mm pitch chain which I want to have five teeth, I thought it would be as simple as pitch X number of teeth divided by Pi but it was out by about 10mm which I figure is because the pitch is point to point rather than following the circumference.
cheers

Five teeth? Way below the accepted minimum number of teeth. Would destroy chains, unless very special purpose and very low power. Just an opinion, no offense intended.

#1 You might want to read a few chain/ sprocket guides.

What are you going to use this for? 160mm pitch is a very large chain and 5 teeth on a sprocket is no where enough.

no offense taken unfortunatey I don't want a 3 meter diameter sprocket so im going with five have seen fours with this type of chain

looks like good info in there I will give it a going over tonight

The chain life with a 5 tooth sprocket can be measured in minutes, rather than (many) kilometres. IF you're lucky.

with a 160mm pitch I somehow doubt its going to be on the back of a honda
