just wondering on reliability of this wee truck, model is a 2001 7 seater, motor is the v6 I already have a vitara no issues any help appreciated. k,s 24700 cheers.

franc123, Apr 17, 2:57am
Sorry is that 24700km or 247000km?

robinm1, Apr 17, 3:00am
thirsty, gutless and unreliable, stick to the 1590cc 4 cyl vitara/ escudo. they go well and sip fuel, the v6 drinks fuel at a horrendous rate and they suffer cam chain issues, which costs about 3 arms and 2 legs to fix.

hfc2, Apr 17, 3:01am
sorry 247000

The 2 litre 4cyl option is also well worth considering, but I dont think available in the 7 seater? I'd avoid a high km V6 for much of the above reasons, they simply dont deliver the goods performance wise for the fuel consumed, especially the 2.0 if it was still sold by that stage, the 2.7 is acceptable IMO but really best to judge for yourself.

Strong, roomy for the size and a full chassis so good for towing. The 2.7 is thirsty. Definitely not gutless, and the camchain issue is the earlier versions - the 2.0 litre version generally.

Had a 2l V6 no issues done 178000k of which i done about 80000k . Run well about 9.3 l per 100km. Repairs leaking front seal , and top tank leak on radiiator and the usual brake pads ,steering belt and that was it.
Keep clean good oil up the motor is the secret and never overheat them.

thanks want a 7 seater so we can cut it down and put on a flat deck, all the rage down here, every second farm has a Suzuki vitara or similar doing the rounds, cheaper and more practical than a ludicrously high maintenance overpriced quad.

countrypete, Apr 18, 4:04am
What about a Suzuki Farmworker ute? Brand new from $13k

franc123, Apr 18, 6:51am
Whoa back the truck up. Are you planning on using this butchered vehicle on the road?

He's in Gore mate. Gore.

slarty45, Apr 18, 4:26pm
full chassis, not a body with a sub frame at each end
a business at mataura has been turning these into flat decks for years

hfc2, Apr 18, 4:41pm
Yep sure am. They come fully certified.

I had a 2.7 Grand 7 seater. superb engine! Thirsty in town, economical on trips. Just be aware these hate crosswinds!

franc123, Apr 19, 10:34pm
Means nothing, it would still require LVV certification given body modifications are obviously needed. But if this is done there is clearly not so much of an issue.

slarty45, Apr 19, 11:04pm
There is a very valid reason the local engineer only modifies vehicles with a full chassis. If the customer (usually farmers) want to use on road, they are certified.

hfc2, Apr 20, 2:43am
means everything these trucks cut down are fully compliant no issue. cheaper than a hilux , better and more reliable and warmer than a quad, good on a road trip and what other ute do you buy to beat up in the bush? please don't say ranger , hilux or mitsi.etc.

hfc2, Apr 20, 12:59pm
thanks but need a double cab.

yep he's got my vitara there now being cut down, not a shabby job too. these wee trucks are great off road and on road, can carry 4 adults.

hfc2, Apr 21, 4:31am
hey troll stick too the OP not abuse!

carclan, Apr 22, 10:47pm
We had a V6 Grand Vitara and sold it at 243000 km, had no trouble with it what so ever. Use the correct grade of oil that the Suzuki dealers recomend is a huge help.

zak410, Apr 22, 11:28pm
Whoa, neat job they do there, I think the 2 door Vitara looks original!

But someone should tell them to spell 'Commodore' the right way.
