Price to replace Campbell and water pump

shall, Jun 18, 10:08am
Including seals , tensioner etc.

Have the parts, just haven't done it, looking for labour only, what is an approx time frame to do on a Toyota Corolla 4afe engine 1994

Can't believe the prices been told up to 1300 for labour and parts, and up to 800 for just labour and coolant,

Campbell is currently out of a job so I reckon you could score him pretty cheap.

Hahha oops auto correct CAM BELT ;)

jason_247, Jun 18, 10:27am
Thats a terrible price. I could expect to buy all the parts including water pump for under 250. Labour 400 would be generous. Very simple engine with not many parts to do.

Ring around id pay no more than 600-750 depending on location

Its worth about 400 inclusive with new coolant, a well trained chimp can do that job in under 4hrs no trouble. By all means ask Campbell for a price if you like.

Hate to think what the outfit who quoted $1300 would charge to do something complicated like a Subaru.

Looking on supercheaps part finder website there are two belt options on a 4afe.
timing kit for 94 tooth belt is $102.99
117 tooth kit is $125.99
that kit has belt, tensioner and seals

adding waterpump is either $60 or $72 depending on type.
Coolant is about $45 for long life.

job should be done easily in 3-4 hours

gmphil, Jun 18, 10:54am
yup something round 4 hours it took me do my corona same engine .
Subaru are simple its just some urban myth there terrible hard

jason_247, Jun 18, 11:23am
except for the new ones when they had excess bolts left over so they used all of them bolting the front cam chain cover on lol

holy heck lol
havnt had the pleasure of doing one yet ,but my sons done two.
must be a common problem ? anyways he was moaning but number of bolts I thought he was exaggerating .

intrade, Jun 18, 10:32pm
not hard takes time and plenty components to change 12 items to do cambelt on most subaru boxers are 2 engines when it comes to timing belt components i paid 650$ trade for all parts so you can guess where the bill ended up near or over a grand with new coolant and all not even part of the 12 items

floscey, Jun 18, 10:51pm
$60 + gst for belt ,bearing and seals . $49 + gst pump( gmb) . Got a guy to do mine for $150 labour.

floscey, Jun 18, 10:53pm
was that a quote from that cam belt specialist place in east tamaki ?

"Just do it yourself you really do not want to be one of those guys"

Trade the rubber band slug in for a timing chain Nissan

Its way to expensive 4 x price of your car - ring round

You should try genuine parts intrade - a bit cheaper than what you've quoted

Or through Amazon. Genuine air filters that cost $60 here can be bought for $15.
