What year was the RAV4. My wife has the new RAV4 and that is a dream to drive. I am suitably impressed with it. No screaming in fact hardly goes over 3000 rpm. The CVT does a great job at keeping the engine at its optimum power for what you want to schieve. And when you select sport mode is exceptionally quick off the mark. Fuel economy is okay, but so far as a family SUV it does a great job.

It was good to read that about the RAV4. We have a Subaru with a CVT and I have found it to be the best vehicle for roads like the Coromandel. Every corner you come out of, you are in the right gear. The best way to drive them is to massage the throttle.

That's a fair call actually. It did work well on light loads and easy pace. Which is most, if not all, the time for many.
If weather is good I'm doing same trip in the Subaru tomorrow so will have a chance to reflect on it.
