Hyundai Santa Fe & towing 17ft caravan

We're looking at a 2009 2.2 Auto Diesel Santa Fe. What are the pros and cons of these vehicles and how do you think they'd go towing a 17ft caravan?
Huge thanks in advance

It's the weight of caravan that will count me think?

Probably fine. AA site has listing of recommended max tow weights, I think the Santa Fe depending on model year and engine / trans combination vary from about 2,000 to 2,500kg braked, so a 17ft caravan should be well under this. If the caravan doesn't have brakes then get them fitted as about 750kg seems to be a typical maximum tow rating - unbraked - for many vehicles even with high braked tow ratings.

Just because the vehicle can tow 'X amount' in theory, it doesn't mean it'll be comfortable doing it.
As soon as the weight towed gets up a bit, the ride comfort in the towing vehicle goes down proportionally.

Yes it will tow that absolutely fine. Your caravan unloaded is about 1100 to 1200kg with a few hundred kilos of gear in it it would still be well within its capabilites.

The 2009 model could be either the first generation diesel or the face lift with the R series diesel.this was the changeover year. Make sure you get the R series diesel face lift. It is faaaaaaar more powerful, and faaaaaar more torque, has a better gearbox with 6 gears instead of 5 and also is considerably better on fuel.

Also the R series engine is cam chain not cam belt like the earlier diesel.

Do a little Google search to learn the difference in appearance so you can find the right one
