Better sell my Holden

bill-robinson, Oct 28, 6:20pm
and buy an extention lead

tamarillo, Oct 28, 6:41pm
Bring it on.

I knew electric cars would go well once a few things are sorted but didn't think theyd come on this quickly. Range has always been an issue but getting up 400-500kms is well within acceptable for most people. Id be happy with one but for a day out just cruising the V8 rumble would be sad to lose

And therein lies the major problem for me. Petrolheads like the noise as it is what can stir the interest. Do you put a USB stick in, playing sweet engine noises to compensate?

whqqsh, Oct 28, 8:57pm
nah (although for a giggle I did buy one of those plug in V8 sound simulators just to wind up my mates) but there are certain sounds that stir the emotions in people. For the rotor boys its 'brap brap', for V8 guys it's the rumble. That's probably why Harleys new electric bike has been made to sound like a jet whine very Y2K-like. To really take the car guys imagination there will have to be some distinction, especially soundwise

gpg58, Oct 28, 9:57pm
Agree, i would miss the sound(v8 disco), but sure wouldn't miss the thirst.
Trouble is still the price of the battery's, going for big options are so dear, like with the lightning motorbike. And realistically what its worth when it needs a new one? And can you really expect to get more than 5 years out of it.
Forgotten who, but someone just did a deal to sell tesla batterys for solar power here, but at $3500usa for i think it was a 3kwh, and the number of that size needed for a car.

Lightning link.

Re battery's here, it is Vector, and looks like it may be a 7kwh, not 3.

I'm hoping that surge of torque will compensate for a daily driver one day. Then we keep weekenders for petrol fun.

loose.unit8, Oct 28, 11:17pm
There are laws overseas which mean that EVs must make a noise of a certain db but that is for the safety of people outside the car

bill-robinson, Oct 29, 12:17am
which countries ?

elect70, Oct 29, 1:46am
Forget about long distance for Ev s . Most fuel is used is in commuting & less than 100 km day & mostly in 50 kph areas . Then Ev cars can be lot cheaper . Keep the V8 for long distance .

loose.unit8, Oct 29, 2:20am
I just googled. the EU, UK, Japan and US are investigating but none have actually enacted laws yet.

bill-robinson, Oct 29, 6:09am
so maybe

mk3crazy, Oct 29, 7:55am
Nothing beats the sound of a V8 though, would choose the V8 any day.

woody1946, Oct 29, 8:05am
Or a twin cam straight 6

clark20, Oct 29, 8:37am
Nah, just an V8 or V12

trogedon, Dec 18, 6:29pm
Sad.
