the problem with tesla is the arrogance and a guy said .
"tesla dont wants you to see the service history , and then said i understand you dont want to release the service hystory showing the drive unit was replaced 4 times under warranty.
Could well be that tesla will be a other car make Who vaishes there was loads since 1900 who came and went .

Nissan probably lower the price considerably for a hyper
EV, like how they lowered the price for supercar performance.

Change is coming quick in the EV world, who will
want a slow CE ?

poppy62, Oct 26, 12:24pm
Well done Renault!

tamarillo, Oct 26, 12:43pm
Tesla desktop need to move over for a concept.
Everyone's got concepts and plans, but telsa are making something right now.

supernova2, Oct 26, 1:10pm
Well done Lada !

poppy62, Oct 26, 1:19pm
What's Lada got to do with the Ren/Niss/Mits alliance?

elect70, Oct 26, 1:19pm
Better to concentrate on small commuterEV cars thats were the most travel is done . build bigger numbers so price comes down & everyone can afford 1 . rather than mega $ on hyper EV cars

mals69, Oct 26, 1:30pm
Nissan (43% renault owned) being doing that for years
with the leaf, the worlds most popular EV.

, Oct 27, 2:06am
And yet despite this, Tesla still has the highest satisfaction rating of any car in the world. For several years now. Tesla owners love thier cars, so I think Tesla will be with us for a while yet https://www.consumerreports.org/car-reliability-owner-satisfaction/car-brands-ranked-by-satisfaction/

mals69, Oct 27, 3:59am
If Nissan can produce the same/better performance, quality
for half the price, their EV market share could be greater than
Tesla, like android is to apple. Even wipe tesla out given the three
car conpanies already have a greater infrastructure.

Chinese looking to make compact electric commuter cars with swapable battery packs.
General Motors and SAIC &Wuling
http://mashable.com/2017/08/08/gm-baojun-electric-car-china/#AxL5Zt4E1qqV CHJ with the SEV (Euro 7K-8K) https://www.cnbc.com/2017/06/16/chinese-tesla-rival-to-launch-7800-ultra-compact-electric-car-in-2018-with-changeable-batteries.html
Imagine the potential for arguments at a 'service station' about whether a replacement battery is fully charged/ not fully charged or how much range it is going to provide provide when the batteries age and kept in service.
I imagine Nissan could put out a leaf with a swapable battery fairly easily.

This Nissan EV hyper car is fully charged in 30 minutes.

Porsche in on the EV action now too.

Why are the EV guys not running generators off the
wheels ? Too much drag ?

elect70, Oct 27, 9:56am
^^ Porche did make an experimental 911 with motor? generators in each wheel around 2000.i recall reading about it in a aussie car mag wheels or modern motor .

, Oct 27, 10:29am
For some reason they don't seem to be able to pull it together yet. The Nissan leaf is a great car, we have 2 of them at the moment. But as yet no one but Tesla has made a decent long range sedan. Can't wait until the do though!

mals69, Oct 29, 1:10pm
Interesting - cheers

mals69, Oct 29, 1:16pm
Can't wait either, exciting times a head.

No doubt 0.5 second and better to 100km/h times
in the future, 5.8L Shelby etc soundtrack pumped
into the cabin via some bose speakers .

intrade, Oct 29, 1:19pm
it will never work number one the impacts from the wheel straight absorbed by the electric motor soon nukes it to bits.
Number 2 wheels are unsprung waight would need to be ultra light or it be bashing like a sledge hammer in to the chassy from the exess waight if you drive in to a pot hole.

Just as well there are Japanese automotive electrical and mechanical engineers who do not believe in ' it will never work' but have a ' we will find a way to make it work' (and be reliable for the customer) attitude.
https://youtu.be/Y2tlXHiPTFY nsk - world's first transmission equipped wheel hub motor The 2018 re-styled Nissan Leaf battery electric (40 kwh) is a vehicle that is likely to seen on nz roads in the years ahead. Range of 240 kilometres (or minus) good enough of many commuters to not have to plug in at work. https://youtu.be/DDgymo4y1Gc?t=27m23s (Nissan Leaf 2018 - along side with old leaf at 31.30)

EV in cities, great short range simple solution for nerds, but to haul the 2 ton wake board boat and all the gear for the summer holiday from Christchurch to Wanaka or haul your Tandem trailer loaded with a ton of gravel to the bach ya dreaming mate.

bill1451, Oct 30, 2:09am
because its the old adage Energy in = energy out, ya dont get something for nuthin, having said that I guess they are already using regenerative braking.

mals69, Oct 30, 2:50am
Towing will obviously drain the battery more, but with a 600km range
and 700Nm of torque it may be doable with Nissan's hyper EV.
If not just pull into one of the charging stations down that way and
have a cup of tea, 30 minutes later you are fully charged and
on your way again. Or do a 5 minute quick charge if only a 1/4
battery needed.

I'd be more concerned how Nissans hyper EV is going to make a
"Fiat" Demon slow.

mals69, Oct 30, 2:52am
Gearing ?

bryshaw, Oct 31, 8:16am
That old myth 'perpetual motion' can't exist in our atmosphere.
