Yes push brake on with left foot They have pushed it down REAL hard and me not been in the car I cannot remember if it has what you described--but it must. Like a release catch? Left hand side steering wheel? Do you think? Cheers thanks for answering

I've never driven a Cefiro sorry.
But I have seen 2 kinds of foot parking brake over the years:
Type 1: Push pedal to apply the brake, pull a handle near steering column to release. (e.g. Jap import Mitsubishi Diamante)
Type 2: Push pedal to apply the brake, push pedal again to unlatch it and release. (E.g. Toyota Aurion.)
If (s)he has stood on the pedal with all his/her might, it could be buggered?

Thanks for your replies. Got to car and found release catch. Yes literally on top of left knee--flicked that and presto! It worked!
