Popular, gutless in 2 litre and only 4 speed auto. Thirsty. Check how many airbags as some imports have only 2.

2 litre also comes in 5 spd auto also comes in 286hp hardly gutless. Also by far from thirsty. I have 3 subarus even my my 07gtb at 315hp can achieve the same fuel economy as my honda euro. Si drive makes huge improvements in drivabilty to achieve good fuel economy.

The 2.0R has a handy turn of pace. Brother has one and very capable on the open road. Still the old EJ20 quadcam in there. The 3.0 sixes use bugger all more fuel and produce 185Kw. 5sp trans and great to drive. Open road returned approx 12.5km/l My average consumption since purchase (10,000km ago) is 8.5km/l mostly around town which I'm pretty happy with.

The only thing to worry about is mid-range hesitation. This can develop without warning. Many possible causes are: VVT issues (no one knows for sure) MAF sensor problems (they have these, but it doesn't seem related to this) Oxygen sensor faults Throttle sensor faults (the BP/BL model was Subaru's first "fly by wire" model Fuel pump problems The list goes on and on and on. Basically, it's typical Subaru - sell a car, then forget about it (they have their money, the customer can get f. d)
This is a well known fault which Subaru refuse to fix, which can cause (in extreme cases) the vehicle to stall when under load going up hill, etc.
'But having said that, they are a great car to drive.
