Looking at a low km (40,000) 2006 Vitz for the wife, but I'm concerned as every time we took off at low speed there was a "rattle" type noise coming from the engine bay area, sort of like a loud "Pinking" sound when a cars timing is out, or wrong petrol. Are they known for this at all? It drove well. I'm worried its a CVT issue, Only initially as we drove off and would only last for a second or two. Seems strange at low mileage. Serller seemed a nice guy and said it was a trim rattle but I'm not convinced. cheers

ambo--the "trim" will be the Plastic cover.-easy fix--pull it off and go for another drive. Couple of possibles --ignoring exhaust heat shields etc. 1) VVTi unit 2)alternator belt--sometimes you get a rrattle not a squeak

Cheers Kaz, yeah sounds a little like an exhaust rattle. the VVTi unit sounds expensive though.
