Check engine light proof Thread

Why does a older toyota corolla not turn on the check engine light but a euro car does.
The reason is emissions . a toyota with a dead oxygen sensor wont turn on no light you might get a overheat cat light while the cat is gone nuclear and it wont come back on once the cat melted down to a clump after.
As where euros and usa cars will keep the check engine light lit as soon as abnormal opration is detected.
asian car pollute the hell out of the tailpipe while euros warn you pritty soon. The system build is also more complex and therfore more proe to failing if not serviced correctly.
Asian cars only lasted so well because they did not have all this wizbang crap to meet tight emission laws and actuarl exhaust tip mesurments and fixes required if it did not meet.
Asian cars all went to the scrap or export and almost non made it past 10 years there=emission tailpipe mesuring countrys. because the bills for emission repairs on asian cars who failed more often then euros where to high for owners.
Now 2010 onwards dont worry these bills al come to asian car owners also
Just they gona learn the hard way to service there cars or have emense repair bills.
And servicing got more and more difficult.
Correct oils -required correct coolants.
Shel be right mate is all a thing of the past now.

The extra wizz bang crap is just O2 sensors after the cat. Not exactly a huge difference in technical wizardry.

My 25 year old Soarer has single wire O2 sensors pre-cat, heat probes after.

Lexus SC400 (same thing but has to meet stricter US laws) has 4 wire (heated) O2 sensors before and after the cat. So it knows if the cat is doing it's job properly and will throw a code if not. Later Soarers (still in the 90s) also did this. So in terms of throwing codes for O2 sensors they caught up a long time ago.

Yes some of what you say is correct, a lot of these problems come from the actual electrical components themselves, where are the y made and what substance and to what cost are they made to, 20 cent resistors pack up and if you are cleaver in electronics these thing are easy to fix, Everything costs money somewhere along the line, All vehicles have come to be more reliable than years gone by, we are doing more km , drive to work is longer and lots of weekend drives. Some cars makes have more inherent faults than others, overall the fleet is more reliable. happy motoring.

question. if you had to drive across the simpson desert in Australia and had the choice of taking either a late model captiva or a 1995 hilux, which one would you take?

Newer car would be a much better drive, and it will get you there, the hilux will get you there too, but bit slower and you will feel it on your body more.

Re*6 but he gets the idea i was gona say the hilux better be pre 1988 with a rocker roller cilinder head. Not bucket and shimms crap who crack and has E for eavel in the engine code.
