Hey all - after ideas. 1995 Hilux Surf. suddenly last week decided the glow plug light wouldnt come on any more and wont fire up - all other lights good, no engine check light, turns over sweet as just wont fire up.
Replaced the glow plug relay already and no joy
Any other ideas? Could it just be as simple as the glow plugs all dead?

common causes is water temp sensor failure or the caps in the ecu.

Have you got power at the relay? Sounds like a blown fuse or broken wire problem to me. I would think the light would be driven by the relay so even if all the plugs were dead the light would still do it's thing. Most diesels will still start even without the glow. Might not run very well but should still at least attempt to start.

Had this exact issue with a surf at work last week. No power at glow plugs and no check light etc. The capacitors in the ecu die. Fitted a refurbished unit all good.

5 check the fuse is still ok and no shorts if the fuse is blown. you can manually glow the plugs to see if it starts befor you pull the ecu out and get it checked by getelectronic in chch
