You do need to go to a specialist seal company such as seal House, seal imports etc.A general engineering crowd won't have what you need.
But without wanting to be an alarmist. Why risk overheating the car for the sake of an $85.00 kit ? it sounds to me like the kit includes other components that may have become brittle with age

Thanks for the advice everyone.

Spent about 10 mins on the phone with a euro place from Auckland, thought we were on the same page until we worked out were we at opposite ends of the car! Ended up making contact with a parts outfit from the central NI who knew exactly what I meant, and have two o rings on the way!

I see your point, and asked several of the euro places that but none of them said the plastic pipe was an issue. Although I could see the plastic firewall piping could be easily damaged if you weren't carefully while removing it.

you might want to post the contacts of that outfit so people who look for places who are no morons know where to go first.

Thanks for the thoughts folks

Good news - new o rings installed today and no more leak.

Bad news - dropped an allen key under the bonnet after I finished bleeding air from the coolant system and can't find it anywhere. I suppose it will work its way out!

The magnets in your tyres will find it eventually.

I heard it rattle before, so it must have found a snug spot - to torment me no doubt!

you need a 300$ flashlight and a magnetic pickup tool
