Had the vehicle for the past 5 years and registered and warranted ,took it for wof to AA and they can't find a vin number in the system ! Now they telling me needs revining ! Any suggestions

kazbanz, Feb 4, 7:49pm
First question to ask is -"Did it ever have a VIN?" being early 70's its fairly likely it did not

igad, Feb 4, 7:52pm
Yes it has a vin number on the tags under the bonnet

saxman99, Feb 4, 8:06pm
What happens when you enter the vin into CarJam?

igad, Feb 4, 8:15pm
Won't show up

alowishes, Feb 4, 8:25pm
Or the number plate?

igad, Feb 4, 8:29pm
If I enter number plate in carjam itwill show up but not when I enter the vin number

saxman99, Feb 4, 8:39pm
Does the vin appear when the plate comes up?

rodeorunch, Feb 4, 8:46pm
Would be a chassis number from back then.
Not a vin number.
As long as it’s got a chassis number plate then
It should be all good.

igad, Feb 4, 9:32pm
That's what I was thinking ,can't understand why they want me to fix vin number through vtnz

franc123, Feb 4, 9:42pm
What number are they looking at? What is the car? The factory chassis code/body number is all that's required, unless it's been reregistered in the last 26 years it won't have a 17 digit NZ issued VIN tag.

igad, Feb 4, 9:59pm
Car is Hillman hunter 73. in the past few wof in some sheet they used engine number and on couple others used chassis number and engine number, number plate is black original

franc123, Feb 4, 10:55pm
If the chassis number is there and is readable then that is ok by itself.

The Grunter,a good car for its time.

🤣🤣

My 1978 car does not have a vin plate and does not need one .

gazzat22, Feb 6, 10:33am
Probably their Book says it must have a Vin nbr so thats what they,re going on.By the book cretins.

toyboy3, Feb 6, 11:05am
If the car has the Todd makers plate by the radiator , thats all it needs

jmma, Feb 6, 11:06am
Maybe, just maybe this car has been re registered in the last few years?

bumfacingdown, Feb 6, 11:47am
",number plate is black original"

jmma, Feb 6, 11:54am
Can still re register with black plates with correct paper work :oP

gazzat22, Feb 7, 10:03am
Cars of that vintage had the manufacturers number stamped in the firewall.Franc 123 #post 11 is correct. The VIN tags only came in when we were flooded with jap imports.

What's the bet that the dude at the AA is not old enough to know that Hunter's were made before VINs were invented.
Next bet not a NZer by birth and English not 1st language.
Next bet can't read the VIRM - https://vehicleinspection.nzta.govt.nz/virms/in-service-wof-and-cof/general/vehicle-identification/vin-and-chassis-number
