This makes sense to me, the OP has a immobilizer problem by the sound of it.
Grit & moisture getting in there will upset the electronics for the key-immobilizer synchronisation & do what the OP said.
Yes replacing & recoding will fix it, at a big vo$t, while simple disassembly, cleaning, reconditioning the key case could fix it cheaply.

The situation I mentioned where leaving the key in the ignition, in the 'On' position, for 30+ minutes to reset the computer, was when a transmission was replaced in the car & the car battery & wiring had been unplugged.

The key fob not making contact with the contact ring around the key hole is also another weakness.

LMAO the reason it occurs is because its badly designed in the first place duhhh. They are simply not as durable as those used by other manufacturers END OF. I'm pleased your tiny personal experience with them was OK for you but it's not reflective of what the dealer service depts have to deal with.
