There are no fine points in the road code.

It's written for morons. And some still don't understand it.

That's only if the car behind you has enough room to come up along side of you to drive straight through or you have a left turning only lane. If neither, i.e. single lane, wide enough for one vehicle only, then you must give way to the right turning vehicle if you want to turn left. The vehicles behind you are just that. They aren't in a give-way position at that time, so nothing they are doing counts.

You got that right.

Mind you I'm displaying less and less courtesy these days because it's thankless. I regularly drive through a set of lights at a T-intersection with a busy carpark exit not far short of them on the right and I always tried to slow and create a gap and signal those wishing to get out of the carpark that I'm doing so by flashing my lights. But most of the time they're not even looking in my direction - they're peering the other direction at an empty lane. Frigg'n muppets.
