A '97 Ford Escort, my first Euro car. Starter motor, alternator, SRS warning light, P/S pump, ignition relay, sagged coil spring, all packed up within 3 months of each other. Those problems were expected at high mileage I suppose. I fixed everything up, good as gold now, but what a bitch to work on.

NZ new '82 Honda Accord, smooth, nice to drive, comfortable and economical, but man could that thing rust! You could park it outside on a wet day and watch it happen.Roof seams, doors (all over, not just the bottoms), firewall, pillars, even around the taillight areas, it was 10 years old at the time. Some years later I inheirited a later import pop up headlight version and that was nearly as bad, which l fixed to WOF standard and got rid of smartly.I guess local paint processes couldn't be entirely to blame, it took years for the sods to sort the bodywork out, even early 90's versions could be rot boxes.

96 Renault laguna, although it never cost any money as such I think it was haunted.
It did some very odd things very randomly. Bloody smooth and quite car though.
Fz1000 as after a 2 hour ride I had to fall off it rather than climb off. The bike shop kindly swapped it for something much more comfortable.

1983 Mitsi Mirage 4 door Hatch in Bright Yellow. The colour should have been a dead giveaway. Effin Thing! Bits falling off, Crossmember snapped, Rotten Manifold. but it was very cheap to fix.

mugenb20b, Apr 30, 7:39am
I actually quite like those cars, but yeah, auto ones aren't that great.

cuda.340, Apr 30, 7:50am
'72 Buick Riviera. 455 BB on 14x185x65 tyres with a 3.5 rear gear. the fastest thing on this car was the fuel guage, 2nd fastest was the rear tyre wear.

mk5 cortina i bought in ' 98 from a dealer. next wof its fail list was so long they had to write P.T.O on bottom of sheet to fill in other side as well

89 civic 25x bought off tm sight unseen in late 07 , silly me beleived all the answers to questions . turns out it DID smoke like a train, DIDNT have good tyres all round and ran as rough as guts. luckily only paid $450 for it and sold it for half that a few weeks later and used the buses for next 8 months.

russ6, Apr 30, 8:50am

I bought a Triumph 2000TC from my brother who knows nothing about cars and never did a thing to it. I should have known better, but I was young and stupid. It gave me nothing but trouble, blew the head gasket so I had the head planed and crack-tested, but I suspect the rings were so worn compression was getting down into the sump and pressurising the oil (I'm no expert). finally gave it up when the tranny died leaving me nothing but reverse!

trogedon, Apr 30, 9:20am
Two of my 3 Triumph Dolomites, Vauxhall Viva HC, Mazda V6, Nissan Bluebird, Mitsi Lancer, Mk 3 Ford Cortina??
