I'll need to take it in, haven't the tools/space at home anyway.

I was hoping to take it to Honda and get them to hook it into their diagnostic scanner, but they seemed less than helpful or interested.

antwerp87, Jun 6, 2:04am
what honda did you take it to!

vjregal770, Jun 6, 2:07am
Manukau, the one on the corner of Wiri Station Rd.

Fast Idle valve is more common in the older Accords but yes your right that is sometimes an issue. From what I remember tho they had a recall for that. Otherwise they bypased it in the 2 wire ones. 4 wire were a bit of a different story.

antwerp87, Jun 12, 5:00am
As for the 2nd part of your message. The drive shaft is cronic for seizing in the hub. Theres a spray that you can get that works wonders at un seizing them. Called Wurth HHS 2000. Its awesome stuff. I swear by it. It can be expensive tho.
As for your 2nd part. Yes the 5 cyl beasts will idle very high when first started. Not uncommon to see them idle at 2000-2500rpm. As for the sugring coulld be a number of things. A little more detail would be apprectiated.
Oh and a tip in removing the d-shafts. keep the hub attached to the upper wishbone, nock it off the lower joint after the d-shaft begins to move freely within the hub. Take it off the lower ball joint. You can take it out and put it back in within half an hour if you do it propperly. pretty easy.

Only thing i can begin to speculate on the surging could be the PCV valve there cronic in them. But usually thats an issue when its warm not when its cold. Hence why a little more info could be good. Angle sensor could also be an issue. Knock Sensor could be the issue. Alot of things can cause surging in those motors. Has it got any fault codes comming up at all! There should be a blue connector on the drivers side (2 pin connector) Make sure its a blue one. there is also a 3 pin connector beside it. Short out the 2 pin blue connector by hooking a wire up between them and your engine light should start flashing a code with the ignition switch on. It will have a number of fast flashes and a number of slow flashes.and then inbetween it will flash and stop for 3 secs and start the sequence again.

antwerp87, Jun 12, 7:52am
They will only do what i said for you to do. except they will charge you 100 bucks to tell you something i can tell you for free if you get the code

antwerp87, Jun 12, 8:48am
Have the ignition turned OFF when you are shorting it out and make sure the wires are in place then turn the ignition on. But dont start it. Just switch it to on. If theres a code it will flash. If not then the engine light will just stay on.

antwerp87, Jun 12, 9:43am
Bolt on. And yes preferably use the B18C cams. Unless you get aftermarket ones. From what I remember you dont HAVE TO use the ECU from it or the Distributor. But I would advise it. If you can get the whole package I would just go a half cut and put the whole engine wiring loom and ECU in.
If you do that sort of thing its good to do it properly. Thats the main thing I can reccomend. If you dont have the $$ to do it properly I advise not to do it at all.

*Bump* And my apoligies for any offence when someone tries to correct me on Honda's I will defend my statements. But will freely admit I am wrong if people want to prove it to me.
Also as per other Threads there is a Honda specialist hence why this thread was made.
As alot on here now know I have been around for a while in one form or another. And have helped alot of people around here too for quite a few years.
End of rant.

Hi antwerp, would like your opinion of this car "2001 - Honda Civic VI 1.7 5D HB 5M - Engine - D17A21006382 - 5-Door Hatchback, 5-speed Manual - Imported" 220,000 k's, mostly open road k's.Water-pump, timing beltb replaced 5000k ago.
Any common mechanical, ECU, electrical faults with these units!
Anything i should look out for!cheers

antwerp87, Jun 17, 2:19am
There a great car. I'm looking at picking up a Vi 2002 Model soon (in manual)
Only real problem they had was on some of them the coils would pack a sad. There not that cheap to replace but it didn't happen too often. I also remember doing a few wheel speed sensors in them over the years. But not that common. There a pretty reliable car. Throw in a K&N panel filter and it will run like a dream. Not the best for towing tho.

mikebumz, Jun 17, 2:28am
Much appreciated, its being sold on here, have no experience with Honda's exept with a friends Honda Logo (1997, Automatic), goes like a dream & she's clocking up huge k's, Taranaki to Aucks 12-times a-year for 5yrs straight, for specialist medical treatment. Awesome engine/car, just normal wear n tear. Thanks again antwerp

hi, are rear tail light gaskets easy to get hold of! and are they cheap! i have a leak in the boot area of my intera type r, and most people reckon its coming from the lights. cheers!

tmenz, Jun 17, 2:43am
Hi there antwerp, 1999 Legend, NZ new C35A3.
Do you know if there's anywhere online that has basic wiring diagrams for this model!
Cheers.

antwerp87, Jun 17, 2:53am
There Will be somewhere. If your looking looking a diagram for a specific item Id be searching it indiidually. your more likely to find it i think. I could be wrong

antwerp87, Jun 17, 2:56am
Should come off with the headlight. There like foam. Use a bit of silocone gasket stuff. put that on the contact area (should be indented) and that should solve it.

ninja_man, Jun 17, 2:58am
ok thanks will give that a go.

hondalova, Jun 17, 7:12am
hi, how hard is it to replace the cambelt and other accessorys on a 1994 honda prelude h22a dohc vtec! i have done cambelts before but not on a prelude!

antwerp87, Jun 17, 7:33am
Ya Got small Hands and a good powered rattle gun and 2 thin screw drivers there a piece of cake

michael.benn, Jun 17, 10:15am
Alright antwerp, got a question for ya.

Me and tutty both have CD5 accords - Mine's a 1996 Honda Accord VTi, and his is a 97.

Both of us have experienced some weird goings on with the automatic transmission. For me it's random downshifts after upshifts, and I feel like I have to control my gear changes with my tachometer.

Ever heard of anything like this! It's like it has a mind of it's own.

antwerp87, Jun 17, 10:27am
Do you feel any slippage in the gears! Does it lag in changing or does the amount of throttle you use change the outcome much! Check the linkage has the kick down cable been adjusted at all! Could be a few things. Bit more info. (Note to all, the more info you can give the better I can diagnose it.)

michael.benn, Jun 17, 10:40am
It slips occasionally ; some times it feels like it really struggles and then jerks quite bad, but this only happens maybe once a week at the most.

michael.benn, Jun 17, 10:41am
It just feels like it's trying to drive the car for me (I know that sounds stupid) but no other auto I've been in feels like that. Weird that it would just be Accords.
