Yup, the O2 is ignored at start-up and until the exhaust gases are up to temp. The heated sensor helps speed things up but there is still a delay before it's readings are used by the ecu. It won't cause flooding at start-up.
The airflow and temperature are what effect the mixture the most.

check your water temp sensor, when mine was unplugged, it made it a total pig to start. if its unplugged it will show on a fault code check.

The exhaust leak won't stop it starting.
The rechip is why you can't get codes probably, check with the rechipper what you need to read it.

my rechipped rb20det ecu thats been chipped for a 25det still gives fault codes. I'll find out what contact to bridge under the dash to make the ecu go into diagnostic mode.
Salv. if you get a code, it needs interpreting. O2 sensor code may not mean you need an O2 sensor. Crank or cam codes may not mean you need those sensors either. They are just a guide and need comparing with the symptoms.
