+1

this is absolute madness!
revenue gathering at its best end of story!
Why is it that LTNZ will send you a reminder for your car registration, but not for your drivers licence, which is far more important!!
Fair go needs to know about this and im sure more stories will come out of the woodwork! i thought my licence would go for another 4 years! only because i checked have i realised its expiring this year!

Doesn't worry me too much about renewing, but a $400 fine! What are the penalties for driving whilst disqualified - a real criminal offence!

Surely if no other offence has been committed (speeding, DiC, dangerous driving, no belts, no WoF or rego etc) a warning and a week to comply would be the sensible method of dealing with it!No harm done.

I got caught with a very recently expired MoT (Wof) in the UK,Just had to present a valid MoT within 7 days at my nominated Police Station, along with my driving licence.Still had respect for the police afterwards and right up to when I emigrated.

Good on you for being super-organised. I bet your Google account will still exist in 10 years time; unfortunately the time (2000) I got my license online calendar was only for the elite few; and I was still on 56K modem.

True.Stick all my stuff in a password protected spreadsheet, along with all those frustrating logons, password, booking numbers, client codes, account numbers, user names, software logons, expiry dates, travel bookingsetc.

I think there are over 80 or so at the moment.

Also useful for travel when your electronic visas are not stamped into your passport!

The expiry date of my licence was written on the licence. I read it to know in advance when it expired.

Seems pretty simple to me.

You spend your day trying to piss every other cunt off, dont you!

johnf_456, Feb 23, 2:04am
Thats biker, the unique biker, he will never play ball.

unideck, Feb 23, 2:28am
No need for that.

Heres a story for ya.

I wrote off my first car when I was 19 or so. Back in late '99 or 2000 I can't remember. I never got around to getting a photo drivers licence and my paper one was 'expired' according to the Police who attended my write off. Cop forbid me to drive until I got a new licence.

So being an honest chap I went and told the insurance company of this fact. My claims advisor told me that "That won't affect your claim at all, its a total load of rubbish what they have done with the licence system". I was paid out in full by the end of the week.

socram, Feb 23, 2:51am
I'm an amateur and I'm damned if I can get into a couple of files I protected years ago!. Could do with a bit of help!

im_andrew, Feb 23, 2:55am
No need for pissing about the person asking you for ID, either.

socram, Feb 23, 3:23am
It was your language. Typos and spelling mistakes or bad grammar we can live with, but using language like that on a public forum is not acceptable.

If you thinkl I am being prissy, I had six years as a prison officer and expected that sort of language in that environment. No doubt I am not the only onewho doesn't accept it on here.

im_andrew, Feb 23, 3:34am
Im not sure what you are talking about!

mantagsi, Feb 23, 3:34am
look around, watch out for him on other threads - he is a pious 'nanny knows best' type, probably some gubmint/osh type in disguise - I can't say I am fond of the language either but always a laugh when he loses his rag, especially to someone like the good biker! good times on the MB as usual

johnf_456, Feb 23, 4:08am
lol funny stuff.

im_andrew, Feb 23, 4:23am
NZ drivers license is a valid form of identification, as is a HANZ 18+ card, NZ passport or overseas passport - according to the sale of liquor act (1992). Also, most people who would be required to ask you for photo ID would be trained in spotting a fake license. Now I know a master counterfiter such as yourself can whip up a perfect copy of any document in seconds, but 90% of fake licenses presented in bars are cheap and stand out like dogs bollocks.

johnf_456, Feb 23, 4:23am
1984!

im_andrew, Feb 23, 4:26am
Why should they have to think for themself, just so you can play your little games! In most situations where you would be asked for ID, if you are unable to produce it you are denied. What have you succeeded in doing then!

johnf_456, Feb 23, 4:28am
I see never heard of it.

im_andrew, Feb 23, 4:30am
And I love being called the "nanny knows best" type because I drive a legal car and follow the road rules.

Shit, you would almost think I actually value my license!

pollymay, Feb 23, 4:33am
You know people that can't drive or have an impairment can opt out of driving anytime by just not getting in the car, just like any drunk person can!. Hence over regulating general population with stupid retests and such would be pointlessly annoying, the stupid stay stupid no matter what rules you have. Things happen, you can't stop that and acting like an expired licence is worse that running a red or other serious offences is dumb.

im_andrew, Feb 23, 4:55am
Why are you saying I dont think though! Because I take the easy option of having rego and WOF and a license, and I stick to the speed limit!

And with your little "Oh, I dont drive" routine, how far do you normally get with that! I can imagine it normally ends in "Oh im sorry sir, I cant let you . without proof of age/identity/license."Am I about right there! Bet that would wipe the smile off your face.

Shit man, games like that are cutting off your nose to spite your face. You can play games like that all you like, but in the end, you are the one being inconvenienced when you refuse to show ID.

Im off to bed.

1. Its time people took a stand against unreasonable fines, both in terms of the amount not fitting the offence and tickets being given where a warning/reminder is more appropriate. Since there are no quota's and the Police do not receive any funding from fines this should be no problem.

2. Its all very well to say "oh you should know when your license expires". If you ONLY had to worry about your drivers license that would be fine but unfortunately its just one of so many renewals its simply no longer reasonable to expect full compliance without fair reminders.

Its time the government trashed some of Labours Nanny State nonsense so we can concentrate on the few things that actually make a difference. Putting vehicle registration "on hold" would be a great first one to throw out. I detest how its deliberately rigged so you can't renew it too far ahead (online anyhow) thus keeping the window for renewal deliberately small and having as many accidentally not renewed as possible.
