Minimum Battery Strength for Bike Indicators?

I've put a small set of 6V indicators onto a 1954 BSA Bantam. I've converted the bike from direct lighting to normal with a 17amp hr alarm 6V gel battery and a 6vR/R. Problem is with the motor going and the lights on the flashers will not work.
Turn motor and headlamp off and they do. Sounds like the battery, or maybe the charge rate going into the battery is not sufficient to charge up the capacitor in the flasher unit! Any thoughts! Alot of smaller jappa bikes seem to run flashers with very small 6V batteries - but not gel types.

Havn't measured the voltage when running. They won't work, even with the lights off and motor going, which sounds weird, since they work when everything is off. The sparkplug also uses it's own ignition coil and does not need the battery to run the bike. I'll test the voltage tomm (should be just over 6!). Could be my wiring is a bit iffy since I did wire them up myself. Although all new connectors/ wire and all soldered up.

I know it might sound silly but the relay you are using is it 6 or 12 volt !

Thanks guys. Funny the comment about the flasher unit. I had a 6v electronic car unit on and that worked and have just changed to a smaller (presume bi metallic off an MZ), type due to lack of space to mount it. The bulbs came with the flashers, really small 6v more like a instrument light. All are same power so they should be OK. Think it could be the flasher unit, I'll swap the other one back and try it. Sounds like they use up less amps! Cheers again.

The electronic flashers are the way to go these days.No more piddling about making sure you have all the correct and same wattage bulbs in the indicators to match the output of the flasher.they flash whatever bulbs you have in there be it one 10watt one 5 watt etc.You can get them from Supercheap for about $25.00.Solves the bulb hassles forever.,,Although 6 volt.mmm ,,getting kinda primative there.

Just like to say thanks for the advice. The electronic flaher unit has got the indicators working again! Cheers guys.
