lifted the bonnet of the girlfriends car today 98 toyota starlet and the negative battery post is actually bent is this a major issue!what causes it!battery is only about a month old. TIA

did the person who fitted it hit the terminals with a hammer instead of undoing the bolts properly!

Just leave the battery post like it is, don't try and bend it back. But, I'd be going back and asking for a replacement battery.

If all orange and red lights go out drive it 4 another 4 years. Just check that the battery post bolts are tight.

Some mates of mates really are dipsticks! In 30 years of fiddling with cars I can't remember having to hit the clamp that hard that it bent the terminal.

Never ever hit a clamp. if only Sue Bradford pursued more useful laws you might have been O.K.
(Seriously though, you should never hit one no matter how light)
