Flat battery or. ?

Parked up yesterday outside school for pick up.Did not turn the car fully off, the motor was off but the elecs etc were still on I think, for about 10 minutes.Realised when I went to start the car that something was up, it didn't start straight away, took a minute or so to start up.The digital clock restarted & the preset radio stations had been cleared. This morning, went to start the car but it wouldn't kick in.All lights on the dash are on, lights in the car & boot on too.Subaru Legacy RS30, 2002.

Winter does kill batteries that are near the end of their life.
Is it turning over slower than usual when you turn the key!

As with thunderbolt, winter is hard on batteries, combine that with typical short trips.Break out the battery charger.

Get it looked at by a sparkie, they will load test the battery and check the charging system (a lot do it for free)

dirty therminals on battery can do this or a faulty starter motor.

As per intrade.if the battery terminals have white powder on them, simply boil the jug and tip all the boiling water over the terminals. Ensure you tip another jug of cold water over them to wash all acid residue off. For the DIY this is a safe solution without having the danger of cleaning terminals.

Yep it does, goes really slow then dies out.All lights are on though. Got the other half working on it.Hoping it's just a flat battery & nothing else!

More likely an unserviceable battery. Flat batteries can be charged and will return to more or less normal performance. Unserviceable batteries can sometimes be charged but they'll self-discharge quickly, especially when it's cold.

What's the lifeline of a battery!Bought the car from a car yard about 1 year ago.So this is our 2nd winter.Have had no probs before. All this time we had a battery charger in the garage, just learnt how to use it lol. It's going now, just hope it does in the morning.

first_bubz, Jun 30, 5:47am
Bugger.Hope not.Well, rather that than anything else. The car is going for a run now.Spose I'll find out in the morning. And yeah the car sits outside overnight cos it's home is a man cave! Grrrrr

Once it's charged, on the charger, drive it to an auto electrician to be load tested. 10:1 odds it's toast.
