Whats my mitsi VR4 worth

Yes.But.

You could probably never replace it at all with such low kilometers as it has.

$5000 seems fair to me, from an insurance point of view.

Look at it like this.I bet you'd have trouble trying to sell it for $5000 as is.

The other examples have high prices and zero bids.

But dont get me wrong. It sounds like an awesome old Galant, especially with such such low K's.

So to insure it to what you feel it is worth, will be hard to do, unless you go to a specialist insurer and pay a higher premium.

Since it's off the road and in storage, I wonder if you could stipulate it in your household insurance, for an agreed price!

unclejake, Jun 18, 9:24am
Jandal, you can get an insurance that used to be called Classic Cover at an agreed value for your car. They limit the miles you do, but the cover is for the amount you stipulate (within reason I guess).

M. E. Joblin used to do it and I still have one $50k car in storage (laid) under a similar scheme, but I use a broker now so I do not know who the actual insurer is.

unclejake, Jun 18, 9:34am
PW can tell you what he thinks it is worth, but that doesn't help your cause any more than John_F9 (or whatever) telling you he thinks you are un-cultured.

A registered motor trader could write you up a valuation that will assist, but I figure they ain't going to tell you what you want to hear either.

For the record: if the storage is free then I think you are doing a smart thing with this car

Having some experience within the insurance industry, in my experience the insurance company will be assessing your vehicle's replacement value on very limited criteria.
The bottom line being that it is a twenty year old vehicle, with very little or no write-off value to the company. Given that it would take only a very minor incident for the company to deem it uneconomic to repair.

Kilometres travelled will have no bearing (or very little) on it's actual value.

sw20, Jun 18, 10:46am
If its as mint as he says I'll pay that today.

nickolaz, Jun 18, 11:14am
So are you storing just because you think it might be worth more in the future!

bentcoupe, Jun 18, 8:45pm
guy i work with has same car,Hard to say what its worth,I tell himif he sells it its gone,5-6kin time be worth a bit more

jsbike, Jun 19, 3:40am
not much point asking what people think its worth if you already have in your head what it is worth to you.

jarrod261, Jun 19, 5:41am
If its a stock evo 0 in good condition it should be worth a bit.
A boyracers wet dream,lol.

johnf_456, Jun 19, 5:54am
Lol never said anything to begin with.

grangies, Jun 19, 6:02am
No harm at all.

What do you feel it's worth!

aragorn2003, Jun 19, 6:16am
6k at most if your lucky. Its value will increase but not as much as other old jappas , i.e. a stock standard evo 1 will get more then a vr4 'evo 0' and will always be that way , zr4s are still pretty cheap if you can find one , just because they're 'rare' doesn't necessarily give it a big price tag

As someone said above you can try and get it insured under classic cover for what YOU think its worth and when it comes to selling it still isnt up to your value , get it 'stolen'

cjohnw, Jun 19, 6:26am
Don't think you should be suggesting insurance fraud on here.

He could end up in a little room with his own bed and toilet included.

aragorn2003, Jun 19, 6:30am
im sure hes well aware of what can happen if you get caught doing insurance fraud and i said it in jest(sp) not seriously , damn not being able to read tone!

aragorn2003, Jun 19, 6:33am
thanks , aww did you just read the post above yours!

grangies, Jun 19, 6:34am
Yep lol.

flybye_in_a_rx7, Jun 19, 9:35am
i reckon bout $5k. no one really has cash to splash these days, expensive to run and insure main reason why i think you'll only get about $5k

grangies, Jun 19, 9:47am
Janda90!

If that car was in a garage on my property, then I'd be driving it every now and again.

jason_247, Jun 19, 10:14am
ask mr weston

grangies, Jun 19, 10:21am
He's on here, a lot.

So he would have seen this thread, many times .

bexx13, Jun 19, 11:11pm
Man hold on to it you will regret selling it. I sure regret selling mine.

phillip.weston, Jun 22, 12:33am
No you wouldn't. if he were to sell it for $5000 I would be first in line. With that amount of kms, I would almost say double the $5000 figure and you would be closer to its actual value.

Mine has 200,000kms on the clock, is more or less factory standard apart from a few improvements from later model Evolutions, and is clean and tidy and I was offered $8,000 a few months back, to which I declined, because if I were to sell it at that amount, there's no way I could buy a similar condition one ever again for that money.

phillip.weston, Jun 22, 12:37am
Mark my words. The Evolution VR-4 (not to be confused with the every day boy-racer chromie shod standard edition VR-4) will be worth money in years to come. People said the same about 60s/70s Falcons when they were 20 years old. 25-30 year old Japanese cars are always on the rise in value. 10 years ago a KE30 Corolla was a plain old boring Corolla. not even they are shooting up in value and they are the most un-appealing of the lot.

phillip.weston, Jun 22, 12:40am
Go find a sub 100,000kms factory standard un-molested '91 Evolution VR-4. You wont. In fact you wont even find one with less than 150,000kms on the clock. I would almost go as far as saying you wont find one more or less completely factory and untouched, out of all the ones that are for sale at the moment. I've been keeping my eye on just about each and every Evolution VR-4 which pops up for sale. The last one which I truly deemed to be 'standard' and unmolested, had 140,000kms on the clock and sold for $12,500 about 24 months ago. Yes I too can admit that is on the high side, but it's certainly not a $6,000 car.
