That Fiat will be a much heavier vehicle though, largely because of all the extra safety equipment.

crapolaman, get a ford

My car weighs 915KG, the Fiat weighs 1,015KG. So there isn't really much in it. Though it is pretty well considered that the internal combustion engine pretty much reached it's best in efficiency with the advent of fuel injection.

So. buy a manual one!
Also. you should try a DSG before you decide you want a Manual. Its not a silly sloppy auto, its actually a clutch-less manual like is used in Ferrari's etc.

So you can manually select the gears if you want, you get all the low servicing and economy of a manual as well. In fact you should actually get slightly better economy than a manual in the real world.

At the risk of sounding like that Dog & Lemon deadbeat.

What's the Fiat's track record on reliability like these days! And what of that fancy-schmancy VW DSG 'box!Bloody hope it's not like the Nissan CVT to service!

That said, I bought a 2004 Barina SXi new, and it never put a foot wrong in the 5 years and 61000ks I put on it. The 1.4 was never a rocket, but it was a fun drive, could really chuck it around. Hell, I'm even looking at getting rid of my current 04 Maxima Ti (non-CVT) for an '03 Barina SRi.

I'd buy a 2nd hand low-mileage Opel-based Barina - I wouldn't even look at the el cheapo Korean thing.

What nonsense!what cocabowla has said is absolutely correct. When Daewoo tried selling cars here under its own name it failed dismally, because, drumroll please, it sounds like, looked like and felt like a cheap goofy Korean POS.In the early days when they were selling an old exhumed version of the Pontiac Lemans/Opel Kadett and a recycled Holden Camira/Opel J car rebadged as an Espero the local operation was run like a mail order outfit with parts and service franchises offered to any regular suburban garage who was prepared to take it on and had a nice waiting room.Daewoo's financial troubles eventually saw it being annexed by GM and eventually having to be sold in this part of the world as Holdens to try and add some extra credibility, ditto in other markets as Chevrolets or whatever other brand GM thinks will make it sell.Any further questions!

Thats because modern cars are so heavy and require so many safety features to even get them approved to sell.Every new airbag that gets installed needs more kw's and fuel to push it along.
