Mazda ventilation fan resistor

Can anyone advise where I can buy a second hand ventilation fan resistor for my 1990 Mazda 626! The existing one has failed anda new part is rather expensive.
Any comments appreciated.

mazline or your local dismantler

A resistor is a resistor is a resistor - electronics supply shop.

So you've never bought one then!

For those of you who don't know, this resistor pack the OP is asking after is a small flat rectangle of plastic with four pins on one side, and the other side has three coils of wire each with different levels of resistance. Depending on what speed his heater blower fan switch is on, depends on which (if any) of these resistors are introduced in series into the power feed going into the blower motor. The lower the speed, the higher value resistor is introduced in series, which results in a slower running fan motor. The hassle with these is eventually one or more of the resistors burn out, therefore the heater fan switch goes open circuit on one or more speeds. Very annoying! PS - if you can get to a local picakpart, you can harvest heaps of these out of Familias and Lasers cheap, and just keep swapping them in as they die. Usually a good one can be found out of a few.

Also they dont have the values on them, they are just open coils of wire. Sure with a bit of messing around the OP could determine the resistance and go buy a mega expensive heat dissipating resistor from jaycar or whatever, but cheaper and easier to replace the whole pack using the correct part, second hand or new
