Mitsi 4g64 engine compatability.

Hi all you Mitsi Guru's - 1992 L300 auto exceed needs short motor or complete motor [rod tho' side] - what other years will fit and whats difference between auto and manual bell housings - can manual be modified to fit auto!
I know mitsi changes design by the minute so I need info to make correct choice - for instance two different width bell housings have been used I'm told.
Gratefull for any help, thanks.

Being a 92 it'll be an 8V motor, but being in a commercial vehicle it'll be a wideblock bellhousing pattern. You'll need to find another 2.4 8V from a 91-93 L300/Delica van. You could use a 16V 2.4 from a late 93 onwards L300, Triton or Delica L400 but you'll need to change over the wiring loom, ECU and air flow meter to suit the 16V engine.

the 2.4 in the L300 will have the same bellhousing between autos and manuals. The 2.0 in RWD config will be narrowblock however a 2.0 4WD will be wideblock also. FWD 2.4 (ie Hyundai Sonata, Magna etc) will be narrowblock.

Thanks a million Phillip - how much loom change reqd if using 93 onwards - only on immediate engine area or more involved!

don't know - never did it myself. Ideally you would want to find another 8V 2.4 L300 motor.

Thanks for that - going for the short block option - will head etc bolt up to a year 2000 engine block!
