Good car for $4500 or less?

jcs4, Feb 14, 5:38am
I'm after something nice looking, 2 or 4 door. Good on gas but with a bit of go when needed, would prefer manual but autos ok in the right car (i.e when im compromising)

No ugly cars, and no subarus or mitsis

By good on gas I mean similar to my corona, which can get 8l per 100km on the open road

morrisman1, Feb 14, 5:49am
Nissan pulsar n15 GTI model!

very reliable, common so parts/expertise no issue, go really well (140 odd hp and LSD I think) and economy you can expect to use less gas than a corona would.

They look pretty good too.

there are hundreds if not thousands of good cars priced at between $1000 and $2000 . Why spend more!

I have a reliable beater, I want something without the dents, that looks and feels nice to drive.

Zeph has a Peugeot 205 Gti 1.9L for sale, that would be a fun wee car

sw20, Feb 14, 6:30am
Don't know if the Pugs are that great on gas, bloody good fun though!

Zeph probably wants a Corolla like mine. u jelly!

morrisman1, Feb 14, 6:33am
They would do pretty good on the smiles per gallon scale.

Even the 306 diesel was a hoot to drive.

I have the same model as this exept mine is a Vti.On the open road I use around 7.0 litres per 100.I have even had it down to 6.0 litres per 100km while still using the A.C.Around town expect around 8.5-9.0 litres.

mileyfan73, Feb 15, 9:03am
I have personally driven this car, albeit briefly, back when it had 80.000 on the clock. What a minter!Would buy it without hesitation if I had the coin, will be good for another 300.000 ks easy.

Just a shame that particular model went to those disgusting headlights - i always preferred honda front ends from the early to mid 90's with the big wide headlights - hondas always had that 'squint' look that i like so much
