I would think a coughing hearse would be most inappropriate.

I will see if I can dig out the facts so as to nail your problem and put it to rest.

only if its a rental or hired for reward.

heavens knows !or when hell freezes over ! when your driving a hearse, you must be very careful, so you arrive dead on time.

I would suspect .If it's being used for a business = YES A hearse is very different compared to a company car, in that the hearse IS a major part of the business & is used in a commercial capacity for the transport of the main "product" of the business.
mrfxit,
Jul 4, 3:46pm
Which IS the case

It seems that some do and some dont, yesterday i saw 2 hearses from 2 different funeral homes, nearly identical in model and features and 1 had a cof and the other a wof.
Do the drivers have to have a P endoresment to drive them !
Also, do the Driving Miss Daisey cars have to have a COF !
grangies,
Jul 4, 4:04pm
But most company vehicles do not require a COF, unless they are over weight, dangerous goods etc.
A Hearse is just a big station wagon.
modie61,
Jul 4, 4:06pm
Question is,is the passenger paying to ride in the hearse !
mrfxit,
Jul 4, 4:24pm
If paid via their insurance /Will /estate etc = yes directly Otherwise it's the relatives that pay, therefor both ways are still hiring the hearse to transport a paying /paid for customer
mrfxit,
Jul 4, 4:24pm
Yes but it's used to transport the SOLE primary reason for the business
desertcolt07,
Jul 4, 4:28pm
i used the family commodore.so yes

Jul 4, 4:35pm
Like a rental car , it's a commercial vehicle , so yes. now the difficult question, does the driver need a P endorsement for paying passengers! How can the passenger pay when they are dead!
mrfxit,
Jul 4, 4:37pm
Defacto payment via insurance etc or prepay.
omega12,
Jul 4, 4:37pm
Easy, pre-paid funerals.
modie61,
Jul 4, 4:55pm
What about Miss Daisey service ! Who pays for that service or is it voluntary ! Also, does an ambulance driver require a P endoresment ! Or are they exempt !
the-lada-dude,
Jul 4, 6:38pm
you mean SOUL don't you
the-lada-dude,

Ambulance drivers do need a special license. but please don't ask if your need for ambo is genuine
ralphdog1,

Isn't the hearse the Ambulance at the bottom of the cliff!

'A certificate of fitness (CoF) is a regular check to ensure that your vehicle meets required safety standards. Legally you must have your vehicle inspected for a CoF every six months. Vehicles requiring this certification are:
heavy vehicles - trucks, larger trailers, motor homes all passenger service vehicles - taxis, shuttles and buses rental vehicles'.
If the hearse carries mourners I would say yes it needs a CoF.
tonyrockyhorror,

So is a courier van. That has nothing to do with the requirement for a CoF.
mrfxit,
Jul 5, 6:58pm
mmmm Courier van has to have a CoF
Something about it being used for commercial purposes for hire. Mmm yea bit of a grey area because technically you are hiring the funeral company & not the hearse directly. Altho a trucking firm is hired & not the truck directly
