Want ideas for those out there in the know ,i want a Sunday afternoon fun to drive car. What are your suggestions some thing like MR-2, Celicas ( which are my favorite) that sort of thing.I havent a huge budget say $10k at most

bill-robinson, Jul 22, 2:47am
sounds like you are down to deciding between two. Toss coin and buy.

Go for a mint early MR2 (AW11) Supercharged ones are a little quicker but probably not as much fun as a NA one with a bit of work (say cams and some head work). Supercharged ones were softened up and had some understeer built in for the US market. Turbo SW20's can be made into a fast car, but as an investment as well as fun I would go for the AW11. Although a mint (if such a thing still exist) GT4 would also make a nice toy. Other Celicas forget, unless you want to go classic with a 1970's twincam GT.

Mazda MX5

bellky, Jul 22, 3:39am
Yep, all lovely hairdressers' cars.

headcat, Jul 22, 3:42am
You'd get a pretty good 944 for $10k

bellky, Jul 22, 3:44am
What about when something goes wrong! No way, stick to one of the others.

mugenb20b, Jul 22, 3:45am
Like what!

aragorn2003, Jul 22, 3:46am
sounds like a mid life crisis

bellky, Jul 22, 3:47am
Something that you need to go to a Porsche dealer for. I'm pretty sure fixing and MX5 is going to be cheaper than a 944.

mugenb20b, Jul 22, 3:48am
Yep, everyone should drive Falcodores.

I've owned a lot of performance cars . but I still stand by the fact that possibly the most fun I've ever had was in my AW11 Supercharged MR2. For what it was, cheap on gas, and a blast through the hills etc it was really great fun for a small, cheap and reliable car. Sure, it's not going to break records etc but was great fun.

944s are very reliable / straightforward cars. There is nothing a good mechanic can't do.

bellky, Jul 22, 3:51am
Falcon or Commodore I think you mean. And yes a Falcon is a man's car.

bellky, Jul 22, 3:51am
What about specialised parts from Germany.

splinter67, Jul 22, 3:56am
yes it is a mans car not a very clever man but still a man

bellky, Jul 22, 3:58am
Please tell me a cleverer man's car.

not a fword thats for shore and definatly not a fiat

hotrodtodd1, Jul 22, 4:22am
300ZX Nissan. (Z32!)get the two seater twin turbo. Its half a chance of not dropping in value, as they are already cheap.

And they go like cut cats

fordcrzy, Jul 22, 4:45am
and they are good at chewing up a $7000 cheque in one easy hit.
dont get me wrong they are good, just not as much fun as an MX5 and MUCH MUCH more expensive to repair and maintain

unbeatabull, Jul 22, 4:49am
Yes, my ZX TT I have atm does cost me a lot . if I wasn't a mechanic I wouldn't be able to afford to keep it running with the hours I've spent on it! lol

saffa2, Jul 22, 4:49am
Totally agree.

trogedon, Jul 22, 5:00am
Possibly your bad spelling has just undermined your arguement.
Just saying.

splinter67, Jul 22, 5:03am
no my keyboard wont spell that f word

hutchk, Jul 22, 5:22am
Argument.
