sounds like you are down to deciding between two. Toss coin and buy.

Go for a mint early MR2 (AW11) Supercharged ones are a little quicker but probably not as much fun as a NA one with a bit of work (say cams and some head work). Supercharged ones were softened up and had some understeer built in for the US market. Turbo SW20's can be made into a fast car, but as an investment as well as fun I would go for the AW11. Although a mint (if such a thing still exist) GT4 would also make a nice toy. Other Celicas forget, unless you want to go classic with a 1970's twincam GT.

You'd get a pretty good 944 for $10k

What about when something goes wrong! No way, stick to one of the others.

Something that you need to go to a Porsche dealer for. I'm pretty sure fixing and MX5 is going to be cheaper than a 944.

Yep, everyone should drive Falcodores.

I've owned a lot of performance cars . but I still stand by the fact that possibly the most fun I've ever had was in my AW11 Supercharged MR2. For what it was, cheap on gas, and a blast through the hills etc it was really great fun for a small, cheap and reliable car. Sure, it's not going to break records etc but was great fun.

944s are very reliable / straightforward cars. There is nothing a good mechanic can't do.

Falcon or Commodore I think you mean. And yes a Falcon is a man's car.

What about specialised parts from Germany.

300ZX Nissan. (Z32!)get the two seater twin turbo. Its half a chance of not dropping in value, as they are already cheap.
And they go like cut cats

and they are good at chewing up a $7000 cheque in one easy hit. dont get me wrong they are good, just not as much fun as an MX5 and MUCH MUCH more expensive to repair and maintain

Yes, my ZX TT I have atm does cost me a lot . if I wasn't a mechanic I wouldn't be able to afford to keep it running with the hours I've spent on it! lol
