Why do our MPs have euro cars ?

#1- Because they're up themselves with delusions of grandeur after you voted the plonkers in.
Since when did an MP actually work for their car!

trogedon, Aug 28, 4:48pm
Most MPs work really hard - they work hard to get elected and they work hard in office. Find out about their marriage breakdowns - they're never around when they're in office to put time into their families.

I thought HC ordered the first lot because of low carbon emissions vs cabin space, comfort and of course prestige.

oh and resale price, but it turned out almost nobody could either afford or want them when Turners had to flog the first lot of last year.

Maybe they had a speeding alarm as well ;-)

tigra, Aug 28, 4:56pm
You cannot confuse "working hard" with the number of hours they attend. - Almost all of their work is done with the eye on getting back in next election. Try asking your local member to do something for you and all they do is get their secretary to write a letter and then they tell you they have done all they can. Now the electorate secretaries DO work hard.

texastwo, Aug 28, 5:12pm
Course he would. probably buy some for his bodyguards.

texastwo, Aug 28, 5:14pm
I suspect a similar thing has happened with the decision to buy a lot more speed cameras. Obviously some hard dinnertime lobbying.

elect70, Aug 28, 10:26pm
You dont expect ourreveredpoliticians todrivemundanecars like thepeasantsnow do we . Even the Russian have hand built limos

texastwo, Aug 28, 11:25pm
Well they used to drive glorified Falcons

sabbath-black, Aug 28, 11:48pm
listing 301900703, although it does not say if it was the prime ministers personal or company car.

mike77, Aug 29, 12:26am
I remember reading once the Police tender came up, and the cheapest range of vehicles were 5 series Beamers, but it was consider not a good idea that the plod drive BMW's because of the ignorant opinions shown here!

So they stuck with Falcodores instead.

thejazzpianoma, Aug 29, 12:37am
This sums up how our country works perfectly. Its all about what "sounds good" to the lowest common denominator as opposed to what actually works best when you do the math.

You see the same thing time and time again be it on here, in government, in the media or talking to people. Its a shame as its hard to become better as a people/country if you don't encourage people to think.

I think you could likely come close to halving the actual net running cost of the Police vehicles just by changing them to efficient diesels, and they would still be plenty quick and big enough.

whqqsh, Aug 29, 12:48am
dont you mean thats what Helen had already bought!

vtecintegra, Aug 29, 12:52am
Where on earth did you read that!

vtecintegra, Aug 29, 12:54am
Re the 7-series - they're diesels and among the most fuel efficient cars of that size - this also factored in if you believe the PR (which for once sounds plausible)

modie61, Aug 29, 1:21am
They are nice cars tho, those beemers.

modie61, Aug 29, 1:33am
What brand of Ambulance are used in your areas guys !

gunhand, Aug 29, 1:36am
Most around the country are Merc Sprinters, and the odd Fiat, they phased out the crap Chevs and daffs.

modie61, Aug 29, 1:39am
Is there still some Transits doing frontline work !

thejazzpianoma, Aug 29, 1:57am
I see plenty of Ducato's, mostly facelifted previous to current model ones. However, my Fiat radar is always on (you know how everyone seems to be driving a car the same as you just bought). So I wouln't be an accurate gauge of whether there are more of those than Sprinters.

I havn't noticed any Transits but again, they are my least favorite so I might not have picked them up.

I will start taking better notice for you.

gammelvind, Aug 29, 2:01am
Plonker, deal already organised by previous lot, oh and who were they! Not Keys lot but the socialists themselves!

whqqsh, Aug 29, 2:07am
tried explaining that but he only comprehends what he wants to

3tomany, Aug 29, 2:10am
youre a jerk putting that car up its in my watchlist now and fonterra just droped our payout. looks nice and gunuine

richardmayes, Aug 29, 2:43pm
IIRC there was supposedly a completely sensible reason for it.

I remember reading that they got those diesel 730s at a pretty good price, and they actually stacked up economically against LTD Fairlanes or Holden Caprices, once fuel consumption was taken to account.

I'm no socialist but I just don't have a problem with our country owning a few nice cars to taxi Government ministers around the city in. I'd rather see John Key pick up foreign dignitaries from the airport in a proper car like a 730 than some shitty coon, as though we're the east islands of Tasmania or something.

sifty, Aug 29, 2:56pm
apart from the dire spelling and idiotic proposal, it appears you are unaware that John Keys mother was Jewish.

I'm not sure calling Jews nazis is terribly bright.

rsr72, Aug 29, 2:59pm
Their secretaries their 'campaign' wives!
