They most certainly did.IIRC the purchase price was about 50% below sticker price. BMW dropped their lederhosen to secure a bit of free publicity. The gummint bought a fleet of BMWs at Ford price.

why don't they just all drive 1984 mazda familias they say there trying to save our tax dollers by buying a $50000 car every few years just because it uses less gas or something. i bet a 1300cc hatchback with a manual gearbox and no A/C or powersteering will use less gas than the latest prius or whatever they drive

had more trouble with rice burners than euro cars. went from superminx to mazda,nissan thats when had to start spending money on repairs now back with euro and can enjoy driving again.

Does noone remember the huge stink a year ago! Gosh people have short memories. Coincidence that BMW were tendering to supply the gubbiment cars. (along with a bunch of other brands) Then when the final sighn off time came it turns out a BMW franchise donated tens of thousands to someones campaighn. I reckon there were backhanders going around left right and centre.
The other reason is that those making the buying decision are not PERSONALLY paying for the repairs and maintainence.
