toyota drop their prices to compete with aftermarket parts years ago, cam belt and seals from toyota yes but not genuine water pump for most makes, if your in the know you would know which brand of water pump toyota uses, i get them thru a third party at or below trade of aftermarket pumps, with vag group parts (Vw Audi) again if your in the know you would know which parts avaliable thru several genuine suppliers here in Auckland are in fact after market re-bagged as genuine, fortunaly again im tired with Incar Auto in bulgaria so have great access to genuine parts from Europe

That is YOUR personal experience and I respect you have had a great run out of your 199! 740 However MY personal experience with euro cars has been the exact opposite. I have found that on 1990's to early 2000's euro's it IS costing about double or triple the cost of a jap car to fix. Call in sometime I'm happy to pull out the bills and show you -going back 2 years is easy but I can go back 5 if you like. Before the euro salesman jumps in Yes I do shop for the best price on parts including using my uncle in the UK at times -No Im not dissing your experience but please show me the same respect.

My neighbour worked for a large dealer that handled Japanese and Eurobrands. The service rates, consumable rates and parts mark up on the Euro stuff was higher as it was a "prestige" brand. The gouging of Euro customers has not helped the owner experience.

I'm with you. Have had a 520i, X5 4.6I, 545I and now have a E350 & a B170. Nothing costs that much. Only those who havent had a Euro car or taken it to the correct dealer will pay more or think they have to pay more. My cars are all either NZ new or Singapore. No issues and dont believe the rubbidsh about Sing imports. I travel there 5 times a year for business and the cars are very well looked after.

So out of interest what would the difference in price be (percentage wise) for a real Euro vs. a Japanese Euro ! do real Euro's even exist ! I ask because my there are some select Euro's I'd love to own but after reading this I'm not so sure I'd be confident in purchasing one.

to many variants to give a percentage if any but generally N.Z new models will always fetch higher prices, yes they are out there but don??

Real Kiwis drive whatever they like and do not give a fornication what randoms on a MB think, real Kiwis are secure in what they choose to drive and do not need to feel big by anonymously judging others by a badge on their car.
