Touch phone. Meant to read "went to"

End of the day the readings are only as good as the operaters proficiency and experience.
Basiacly you see the rear brakes as less-after the coin you spent.
Simple reason-60 per cent braking on front-rear pads have not **bedded in ** yet.
Front-well-check your tyre pressures.
Front imbalance with engine weight on rollers will give a higher reading on the lower pressure tyre.

They were relaxed 8 weeks ago.

Replaced

Is the higher the reading the better! Ie: 350/350 v 290/290
Many thanks for your help.

If you haven't guessed by now. Im female. Who admits to needing advice

pico42, Sep 4, 11:15pm
What does being female have to do with it!

rlr29, Sep 4, 11:55pm
So what is the format of the readings!Force applied to wheel before stationary! And balance from left to right is important, minimum readings!

Don't understand

smac, Sep 5, 12:44am
gydy maybe start at the beginning. What is your actual question/issue! Forget the numbers for a second, just stick to a plain english description, remembering those reading your question don't know the background to the situation that you know.

Start with: have you passed or failed a WoF! If failed, what was the reason given!

Pass wof

There is nothing wromg with your brakes. The readings differ a little from before you had them replaced, however tghe same tester could probably get two different readings on two different days.
As Snoopy221 said above, just a difference in tyre pressures is enough to change the readings.

Just because the brake pads are down a bit dosn't mean you have less braking, just means the wof gug would like to see more pad there. Simple.

i dont know about rollers but at my work we use a brake meter for reading brakes. how hard you press on the brake pedal makes a huge difference to the readings and slamming on the brakes doesnt give the highest reading

gedo1, Sep 5, 3:18am
Spot on correct! The WOF check caused you to get the brakes checked and the mechanic obviously saw the pads were "thin" and recommended replacing them. Good outcome from a WOF inspection.

gydy, Sep 5, 4:48am
Wof check was done 6months ago. Brake pads done 8 weeks ago. Readings on todays inspection were nearly the same as before brake pads done

smac, Sep 5, 5:09am
Which sounds fair enough. You were told you needed new pads, because they were low. This doesn't mean your brakes are working any less. SO six months ago, your brakes were working well, but needed new pads. Now your brakes are still working well. All is good in the world.

NZTools, Sep 5, 5:46am
Almost worn out brakes will give the same (or near enought to) reading on a brake meter as new brakes.

When a mechanic tells you the pads are getting low, he is not talking about a reading. he is talking about the physical thickness of them.

They will work perfectly up untill the moment that they wear out completely, and metal contacts metal when you brake.

Or in other words, dont get hung up onthe two slightly diffierent brake meter readings between new and old pads. it is meaningless.

All the brake meter tells you is your brakes are working fine or not. It wont tell you how thick the friction material on the pads is.

i would be quite happy. when its made part of a wof check that the brake fluid is replaced every 2-3 years.

davedave, Sep 5, 6:45am
In fact, some replacement brake pads will perform far worse than those ones they are replacing.
