hkless88, Sep 24, 10:45pm
diesel leaking form pump area .96 nissan terrano, have been quote 1000 to 1300 t0 fix, want second opinon

intrade, Sep 24, 10:48pm
forget it only other thing you can do is go to supercheap auto and buy a bottle of winns edt and put this in the tank to try and swell seals back up. then you order a 1 liter bottle of flashlube diesel additive at partsmaster or larger one of winns edt.

trader_84, Sep 24, 10:49pm
Did it fail a WOF because of it!

intrade, Sep 24, 10:52pm
Every diesel needs a additive in the fuel if you dont do this then you just found out what is going to happen , and that is not the only problem the diesel also damages the internals of the fuelinjector pump and premarure wears your injectors. another 6 to 800 bux for new injectors. and there is no such thing as cheaper you add the additives each and every tank or you pay the price . 1000 to 1600$ is what a td27 reseal cost its not a easy job on these engines.

hkless88, Sep 24, 10:57pm
yes it did

do what i told you stops leaking after 1 ay driving if it works otherwise your up for pulling the pump. you then also get the egr deleted and intake cleaned out as it has to be removed anyhow to be able to pull the pump.

intrade, Sep 24, 11:02pm
loads additive and little fuel to try and seal it. only buy winns -edt or flashlubethese claim to fix the seals and i know they do unless the seal is crackedapart already.

Ok, I've been there or aptly - one of my sons has. This is the how he got around it. It was VTNZ that picked him up for it. Do what intrade is suggesting because it makes sense but it might also be too late to rectify problems. I don't know. The boy didn't and his is still leaking but he got a WOF. You can spend heaps on it or you can spend a little. The boy spent nothing. I waterblasted his diesel donk and took my time doing it. I did it from above and from below. After that I blew it dry using the air gun from the compressor. I took it for a drive and got it hot, checked it (it was ok) and gave it back to him. He then returned to VTNZ but the other one in town and got them to recheck it. He told them the problem and told them it was the return line that was leaking and that a mechanic had tightened it up. (It wasn't - its the seals . and its all of them) They checked with their torches and little mirrors and upon finding no reason to fail it again (i.e. no leaks) gave it their seal of approval. I'm not saying this is right but am saying this is one possible work around. Because it worked for the boy.

10 years of owning a courier van never put any deisel additive in the two vans I owned no leaks no major problems. I service two line haul trucks no additive there one of them about to turn over 1 mill ks other one has 400 ks on it

trader_84, Sep 24, 11:39pm
Yeah same here mate. My lux has never had stuff other than diesoline, an oops with some gasoline once and normal dirt and shit that goes in from the tracks, in his tank. And I have never seen a dryer rustier looking motor as my 2.8 Luxy donk. I speak to it though and tell him nice things.

Theres several traders on TM advertising rebuilt pumps for something like $495 + P&P.
Still looking at change out of 1K for a shop to fit & tune including the pump price & THEN probably have to do the injectors (another $600 ish)

hkless88, Sep 24, 11:45pm
cheers for that , i will try what u suggested

intrade, Sep 25, 4:47am
there is a thread about it your buddy zephirehaven probably spelled his name wrong has also had his diesel poo it self because he did not listen to what i tell people on here since Years .

newtec1, Sep 25, 7:48am
Don't go there.I sent my hiace pump down to them and it lasted 12 mths before all the seals gave up.$1400 later i now have a completely recond pumpfrom a respectable diesel service co.

newtec1, Sep 25, 7:50am
Spend the money and have piece of mind, those other cowboys are only pretenders.

This might not be totally relevant to this thread, but I did pump & injectors on my TD42 a couple of years ago.
Injectors were $60 each (x6).The pump (Bosch VE) cost about $700 for full recond, incl a new main shaft (the shaft was scored around the seals - it wasn't leaking, but it would have done so at some time - leaking either diesel to the sump, or sump oil to the pump - neither desirable).
Removal/refitting the pump is a nasty job (bad access and fiddly), but the intake didn't need to be removed - Terrano sounds worse.Timing is a non-issue if pump and injectors are stock, line it up to the hair-line timing marks, and she'll be right, unless you really stuff something up in which case it won't be right at all, so RTFM twice.
Recond by Diesel Pumps Ltd Chch.I wouldn't trust an unknown seller of "recond" pumps. This is a series of photos (only 101 easy steps) of a re-assembly of a VE pump.View in reverse - so 202 steps as you need to pull it apart before you put it back together. It doesn't tell you what to look for and how to fix it.Yes - perhaps you can replace a few easy external seals to pass a WOF, but chances are that the pump needs an overhaul anyway.Just thank your lucky stars it isn't a modern common-rail diesel, as they still need maintenance at similar km, but the cost will be over 5x as much.

Wicked edit function.LOL

splinter67, Sep 25, 9:17am
Is that to do the whole job or do you have to take the pump out if its the whole job then its about right snap thats what happens when the phone rings

mm12345, Sep 25, 9:23am
My guess would be closer to the $1300 mark on a good day.I think that $700 for a recond on my VE pump was trade.I think on the Safari, you'd be pushing poo uphill to do it in under 4 hours, and the Terrano is supposed to be worse. Then it would be quite frankly nuts to not remove, test and probably recond the injectors, so count on a few hundred extra for that.

splinter67, Sep 25, 9:28am
Yup the phone call was from a mate that works at DSL in napier he said they were ugly to work on

trader_84, Sep 25, 8:51pm
Is that right about the later model pumps . they cost heaps (heaps and heaps) more to rebuild than the older gear! Why is that do you reckon!
