Splinter, you are just following me around trying to pick a fight. I'm not interested in you or, your opinions.
Go commiserate with mm12345. You two have a lot in common.

Oh crap he is broke. yeah I would bail on it. Or at least see what your rights are to cancel money and send car back
splinter67,

you cant answer because he did not say the dealer is broke stop making things up you should go back to school and learn some comprehension skills

And going for $1 reserve sounds too good to be true and it was but if the dealer is prepared to throw in another motor for you let him you can always flog it on TM if you dont like it.

yeah i cant do this tho with the replacement engine it wont be the car i was biding on. i payed a bit more thinking it was well looked after etc .ive been on the phone all day with a lawyer looking into Consumer Guarantees ,Fair Trading Act etc and have started a file with commerce commission as it looks that theauction was misleading

Reality is it may not be the dealer's fault. Specifcaly the *knocink* may be a poor oil pump seal after an oil change. And the code 66 may just be a simple comonent failure-or a hose knocked off when the oil change was done. Reality is a 96 GTB NEEDS a Pre Purchase inspection-coding-belts-water pump-thermostat-cambelt check- oil pump *O* ring check. etc
snoopy221,

Suby's are prone to hardening the oil pump (O) ring seal. Causing consequential big end bearing failure.

the code 66 is what goggle told me should have came up if the 2nd turbo isnt working .this car has no codes come up at all not even check engine light even tho there is a problem with that turbo.also when they put new oil in they have over fulled what looks to be about 2L to much(this was spoted by a mate an hour ago)
mechnificent,

Well the over-filling could make it knock too. The crank could be hitting the oil.
The symptoms seem to be changing Junk-shop. You really need someone that knows subarus to look at it for you.

Code 66 comes up when the turbo is working, but it's boost limit controller is not working. When you get code 66 the revs stop abruptly at about 4000 revs. if the turbo was working, but not properly, the car would probably still wind out to near the red line, but slowly.

the dealer said he would fix it what the big problem!
aragorn2003,
Oct 23, 4:41am
the problem is , would you really want him to 'fix' it just for it to break down in the future because of him 'fixing' it! Sometimes its best to cut your losses and jump ship.
Dealer has said he would fix it but has also said it would rather not.

Here's my No8 explanation. Something has gone crap with the turbo and the engine has refused to rev out. The computer has tried to compensate by changing fuel mixtures, but this has caused No4 to detonate (the ticking) Because the car has done considerable K's whilst detonating, this has pounded the No4 big-end. (the ticking has changed to a knock!)
Why it's No4 - I don't know, but when I had this symptom, Wingers told me it would be No4, and it was. When I brought one with a knock, it was also No4. (I found the cause when I looked in the mirror)
This can also be caused by lack of air filter changes. They block and the computer goes through the same unfruitful process trying to sort out the mixture. But in this case, the warning signs are different. The detonation sounds like a loose exhaust shroud at high revs.
Give it back if you can.

the dealer has the right to fix or repair at his decision as long as its fair and reasonable. So far From what junk shop has told us he has so far been very reasonable and hopefully will come up with a fair offer.

With a replacement engine its better than the car you were bidding on
junk_shop,
Oct 24, 3:46am
you could be right but i bid on a car that was well looked after andserviced, looking at the paper work was full service every wof(this is why i picked this car) .a replacement engine could be any engine ie poor oil changes ,high kms, hasnt had cambelt changed ,reved hard etc. This would make it not the car i bid on and payed more for
splinter67,

you brought a turbo sub its been thrashed they all have let the dealer fix it and if you dont like it sell it when you get it back
