fluid all over my driveway. Picked it up at 5.30pm drove 1.5kms home and parked it.

Just walked outside and wondered why the drive looked wet, it's fecking oil and there's a nut sitting in the middle of it.

What's the best thing to start soaking it up tonight!

intrade, Dec 20, 1:52am
dont start the car with no fluids.
and best is dishwash liquid for engine oil dont know bout trans fluid if it cleans the floor as good with that

aragorn2003, Dec 20, 1:52am
cat litter!

mrgts4, Dec 20, 1:55am
The mechanic ;-)

exwesty, Dec 20, 1:58am
Yeah spoken to his wife, he'll be bringing a transporter around in the morning to pick the vehicle up.
The drive will be harder to fix, at least the oil is clean.

fordcrzy, Dec 20, 2:00am
get some kitty litter from the supermarket to soak it up.

carmad50, Dec 20, 2:02am
meths maybe
a degreaser

carmad50, Dec 20, 2:02am
send the garage that did the auto trans the repair bill because they obviously didnt tighten the nut up

carlz05, Dec 20, 2:05am
Tell the garage to arrange to clean it up. I've seen them charged for these sorts of things before when I was in that industry.

40wav, Dec 20, 2:08am
Cost of cleaning the drive is consequential to their fu@k up. They should foot the bill. If you can do it cheap and are a good bugger, all good and well, but if its a really nice drive that cost you heaps, get a professional in and send em the bill.

carmad50, Dec 20, 2:18am
sue them too dam many wanna bee s working in the industry that arent qualified aye

exwesty, Dec 20, 2:28am
It's exposed decorative chip, so a bit harder to clean. Problem with dumping degreaser or dishwashing liquid on it is the stormwater drain 5m away. I sure as hell don't want a bill for causing oil or contaminents to enter the waterway.

exwesty, Dec 20, 2:29am
These guys have been in business more than 26 years, someone had a brain fade I think.

bobinnz, Dec 20, 3:11am
Humans F up, unless you do nothing you WILL make a mistake. I know I have made a few but will do everything possible to sort it out and put it right.

vivac, Dec 20, 3:45am
Sand, lots of sand, then get a sweeping.

poppajn, Dec 20, 4:45am
Sand won,t absorb oil, as previous posters said, de greaser or kitty litter. With decritive chip you,ve got to get in the gaps and don,t want a stain like sand will leave.
Cement soak,s up good too.

andrea_w, Dec 20, 5:04am
Is the concrete sealed or not! If it is, the oil may cause problems with the sealer and a re-seal may not be that easy as there is now a contaminate in the concrete. If it's not and there is still an oily residue you want to take out of the concrete, you could probably give it an acid wash to take off the top layer of concrete. being exposed aggregate, you can probably hit it hard with a 10:1 dilution - no guarantees it will work, it totally depends how deep it's soaked.
This is generic advice based on the limited info provided - acid washing can be a fine art so a professional advice may be required

Lucky you wernt driving it would have been a lot worse.Stuffed trans right at xmas.

exwesty, Dec 20, 2:35pm
I can't believe the plug dropped out in the driveway. Son saw the puddle about 20 mins after I parked the vehicle but never said a word as he thought I'd washed it maybe. I went out for an evening stroll some 3 hours later and looked at the wet drive from under the vehicle, instant thought was aircon defrosted after running then went but you haven't driven it for 3 1/2 hours, stuck my finger in the fluid and went feck thats oil.

Vehicle has been fixed, dishwashing liquid and petrol on the driveway along with BBQ sand and degreaser and they are coming back to wash it down later.

m16d, Dec 20, 7:13pm
Better check the sump plug too.

gypsyguy, Dec 20, 7:18pm
We had this once with engine sump plug. They came around themselves and cleaned it up. Reputable dealer of new European cars too.

intrade, Dec 20, 7:34pm
i usually go for a test drive and a recheck for all my work just to avoid exactly that.

brokebloke1, Dec 20, 8:02pm
ive seen people in the trade use CRC brake cleen to soak up oil / grease
spray it on leave it for 5mins then wipe off with a clean rag

3tomany, Dec 20, 8:12pm
tell the garage you are geting some advise from the council as to how to deal with the spill and see how quickly they come and clean it up

saki, Dec 20, 10:13pm
Just go and buy some concrete cleaner from SCA
