if the oil has dropped into it it will need more than brushes, it will need a slip ring and probably a regulator, EF and El are the same, the older ones ( EA-ED)have single v pulley, Later ones are different mounting

hi my EL alternator is kaput with oil from leaking A/C pump and will get another off a wrecker.can anyone tell me which models have the same alternator.eg is EF the same! thanks

Just check it doesn't need a clean out and a new set of brushes.

as above, get it off and get it checked out and brushes renewed, its probably all thats wrong with it. Second hand alternators are always a bit of an unknown quantity, ditto power steer pumps. Its not hard or expensive to rekit the pumps if you know what to do and have the right puller tools for the pulley.

Had a EF in Perth some years ago and the leak on the PS pump was the "O" ring in the pressure hose on back. Ford wanted 100's$ for new hose. Drive specialist there sold me a new nut for a few$ so itmay only be that .

thanks guys.the pump is not leaking now as itsbeen rekitted so thats good but alternator isnt charging now.

ef/elalternator.mitsy brand and bosch brand. .they wont interchange .unless you change wiring.from memory. so look at your old one. look at sticker.will have part number on it.hope this helps.but dont buy one thats covered in oil.or one that looks like its just been cleaned.

well how about that.on looking i see three diamonds so mine is a Mitsubishi in a FORD!.so I will look for a Mitzi EF or EL one .is this correct! funny how its easier to get out when I removed the fan assembly which upon looking is so easy.thanks guys.mine is covered with oil.
