both rear axle seals are leaking in my 97 L200 4x4 (4d56t) so am going to attempt doing them myself. Is it a hard job! Any special tools required! Should I service rear diff at same time! cheers for any decent advice that comes through

You will probably find a sealed bearing and a seal inside the axle housing. If this is the case you will need to pres the bearing on and off. The alternative is to just pull the axle out and replace the seal in the housing but this may not be enough to fix it. i all ways did the bearing and seal at the same time. Also will need to replace the shrink ring that goes on the axle after the bearing to retain it in place. Brake shoes need checking for oil contamination at the same time and replacing if ness.Probably not the sort of thing the average person would attempt at home.
