I've noticed that a lot of the interior plastic in our 2003 VW Golf has a sticky, almost oily, film on it.It doesn't rub off easily, and seems to be mainly on the steering column cover and around the central console area.Do any of you gurus have a sensible suggestion as to how to remove it, without damaging the plastic!Thanks.

That oily film is a VW feature-asoft rubberised textured finish,only problem is it looks crap after a year or three. No idea how to tidy it up, maybe replace withnew parts from VW .
