Toyota starlet problems when starting

When cold it idles really low and keeps dying. It is okay once warmed up. Sometimes you can smell gas inside the car. The mechanic replaced the throttle body with no improvement. He is also replacing the temperature sensor soon. Would anything else be causing it! Thanks

When he replaced the throttle body did he replace the idle speed control valve too!
This is a very common fault and is normaly cause by carbon build up in the idle speed control valve. Easy fix normaly takes half an hour and a can of brake clean to sort it.
If he replaced the throttle body with a second hand unit then this could be the issue also as the idle speed control valve is bolted to the throttle body and second hand ones are normaly seized also.

It sounds like the idle up solinoid

he is going to have both parts tested and see where we go from there

This. If it's the ICV, get a new mechanic.

he didn't replace the idle speed control valve as far as I know, just the throttle body
