jwls2, Mar 15, 7:35am
thanks guys keep the info coming !

daryl14, Mar 15, 7:38am
Without knowing much at all about subarus myself, if you can find an independant (not dealership) specialist garage to pre purchase inspect and service you will be well on the way to happy motoring.

jwls2, Mar 15, 7:47am
would aa be a good start!

jwls2, Mar 15, 7:47am
aa pre purchase inspection be fine!

daryl14, Mar 15, 7:48am
No, not generally regarded as good quality inspections on here.

jwls2, Mar 15, 7:51am
really! why!

Price the insurance first and then we can give you some pointers re finding a good one.You might decide to not proceed any further once you've done the first bit.

If it has had a cambelt done if not your easily up for $1200. Also the 100,000km service is a biggie including new spark plus etc. As others have said check for oil leaks, clutch operation if its a manual. Also i personally would be a little weary of one that looks like its been modified. This could mean its been driven hard. Also ask to see service history.

I've used car inspection services in the past. Very thorough inspection with a detailed report.

Huge fuel bills.

I get excited when I manage to get my BC5 to use less than 10litres/100km.

n1smo_gtir, Mar 15, 8:23am
+100. they are cheap enough on Trademe. piece of piss to install, just hide the unit n wiring well. $140 can get you one that has immobiliser function to cut off fuel pump/ignition. Very accurate location too.

jwls2, Mar 16, 4:38am
any more tips!

suplyuparts, Mar 16, 11:35am

jwls2, Mar 16, 8:42pm
im paying 8g! please tell me more about cooling systems and why do everyne say subarus are shit

towie11, Mar 16, 8:51pm
I work for a Subaru dismantler and the biggest killer of Subaru's is the lack of servicing and yes they do tend to overheat but again servicing correctly will prevent this. Always run a turbo vehicle on good fuel and as long as their are no aftermarket gizmos under the hood you should be fine.

jwls2, Mar 16, 11:04pm
Aw ok . are subarus good engines! or costly to fix etc!

daryl14, Mar 16, 11:31pm
Allow myself to quote myself. did you find this yet! why not approach them and ask these questions. OR there are subaru forums on the interweb. AND there is a search threads function just over there to the left.
Just thought I'd mention because you only seem to be getting the information that you don't want to hear.

And don't say s**t in the message board. It will lead you down a very slippery path. You can bully, abuse, & antagonise everybody all you want, but for god's sake don't say s**t. (in-house joke).

none turbo - 100-150k+ left
turbo - engine ready to blow anytime
high chance of crashing it
high chance of it stolen - why i would never know
