New car stereo

I had a new pioneer stereo put into my car, everything works well but when I'm out driving if I go near power lines the radio fades in and out. Does anyone know what this would be or how to fix it. thanks

Is it only when you have the radio on ? Use to be something
back in the day you could buy to go in your aerial line
to stop the interference - can't recall name of it but no
doubt someone on here will know it . ?

You possibly need a better aerial - what sort of aerial do you have on your car at present!
Are you talking about AM or FM reception.
There may be a trimming capacitor fitted to your radio to optimise its tuning to match the aerial - read your manual to see if there's one - may need tweaking.

FM reception and I have a little stubby aeriel on the roof

If the original stereo was ok then the new one should be too. If it isn't that points to something missing or different in the FM reception setup.

Many cars these days have a FM booster amplifier built into the car which is powered on by the radio. Many installers miss this wire, the result is poor FM reception. You need to google your make and model year of your car and find out if it has one or post on here, someone will know.
