We have two Toyota Vitz cars and both have a green plastic device at the inlet of the petrol filler, which prevent the pump nozzle from going all the way in. I have seen them in other Toyota models too, the Fielder wagon has the same thing. Does anyone know what it is for? It just seems to be a nuisance, as the pump nozzle seems rather insecure when filling the tank using the automatic catch. Looks like they could be removed easily, which I will do unless someone tells me they have some vital function that I am unaware of!

Possibly, I didn't think of that. I'll look at the nozzles next time.

How does that work? Looks as if you could still get a tube through easily enough to siphon.

I can tell you two things for definite. They take about 5 seconds to remove and they are there to try to prevent filling with the wrong fuel in Japan.

It's to stop you putting 91 in it.

Took me almost a minute to get the first one out, second one about 30 seconds. Experience is a great thing.
