How many ks would a mazda 3 / alexa get out of the engine? Thinking of buying one that already has ks on the clock. any advice would be great. TIA

It's more the body (rust) and the transmission (if auto) I would be worried about with one of those.
Also, bear in mind that it's not just the engine and transmission that wear out on a high km car. There are a multitude of things from the fuel pump to suspension components that wear and can cause trouble.
It would have to be super cheap to be worth considering IMO.

like you would not pay more then what $2000? for a car thats done over 180 thou k

180k is only 1/2 worn out, you just need to consider how well it was looked after in that 180K.

That's a Lot. I paid 19k 2yrs ago for an sp23 6 speed mazda 3 with I think 75000kms. Is it much newer?

I would expect 400,000km easy (if its 2lt or 2.3lt) without major engine/trans work if it has been serviced.
Just sold an 04 2.3lt last night at 128km and it honestly runs like new

In my opinion a car with that kind of milage regardless of make/ model it comes down to how the car has been looked after. It could be a Corolla or a piece of eurotrash I would offer the same advice.
Get a complete inspection of the vehicle carried out by a competent inspection company ensuring compression tests etc are carried out.
Higher km indicates a fair bit of the cars life has been hot running,
if the servicing was carried out properly then the car may well be in better condition than one with 1/3 of the KM
The only way to know is a decent inspection.

CV's etc all wear - go for low k car as will be the cheaper in the
long run
