Have just inherited this car to repair, it lost the Alternator belt at some stage, however when I crank it it sounds like it has no compression, don't think the Cambelt has slipped but it winds over and sounds like there are no spark plugs in it Any help would be appreciated

Have a look at something that should be spinning in/on the head while it's cranking. Not familiar with that particular engine, but distributors, cam sensors and seeing if you can see anything through the oil filler should work.

to start off use a 2 channel Oscilliscope and reference cam over crank or and ignition over injection

Did the alt belt also drive the water pump? Any water in the radiator? Wondering if it has been cooked.

Cam belt driven.
It takes more than just a slipped belt to make it sound like it has no plugs (when it has plugs), more like a broken/stripped belt outright. First thing I'd do is check cam is actually rotating.

Cam is rotating thru oil filler hole
