Road Rafe incident with cyclists

I haven't seen this clip but can sympathise entirely with the driver, given I frequently go across the Summit Road in Chch on my way in to town.

The simple solution would have been for the driver to actually toot his horn.

When you're cycling, you can't always hear cars behind you.

Nonetheless, travelling in a pack on a road with blind bends is pure idiocy and ignorance at their very best.

Because tractors being used on the road are licenced, and carry a number plate meaning that:

a) They are paying for the provilege of using that vehicle on the road
b) They have an identifying marker meaning that their vehicle is uniquely identifiable should there be an issue with their on-road behaviour.

These are two things that cyclists lack, their anonymity seemingly giving them a licence to ride like inconsiderate pricks whenever they feel like it.

will never happen putting on lycra exempts you from all road rules. That driver was still a cock though.

A good question for the posters in this thread. >. .

How many ride pushbikes on . . > urban & or Rural roads?
How many are regular riders?

mrfxit, Feb 10, 4:26pm
I do believe that the guy driving was an idiot AND I do sympathise with his frustration, but his arrogance & anger was way over the top.

mrfxit, Feb 10, 4:31pm
If the vehicle driver (who had FULL control over his actions with an approx 2T [+ or - a bit] vehicle), had hit the cyclists & or oncoming vehicle, then he would have been automatically up on the automotive equivalent of manslaughter charges.

He with the biggest vehicle has the least to loose but the most responsibility.

esprit, Feb 10, 4:43pm
Disagree. EVERYONE has equal responsibility to use the road safely.

Ride on both rural and urban as we start our bunch rides from Lincoln road and try to get out at least twice a week

I'll bet that dip-shit drove around several times just to be behind that group. (near AK airport I think).
If he dosent like it, ie; no reg or wof. why dosent he just piss-off back to where he came from? Oh, thats right, he's entitled to be here. As were they.

Just a point about the tractors, most of them will do 50k up hill and down dale, unlike the MAMIL brigade who can barely make it to the next cappuccino.

trogedon, Feb 11, 2:21am
The cyclists were but you don't seem to get that.

trogedon, Feb 11, 2:23am
There are all sorts of vehicles and animals that use the road at all sorts of speeds. I've topped out at over 90kph on my bicycle.

lissa25, Feb 11, 2:32am
That's bloody quick for a cyclist trog, impressive! As we discussed in another thread about the same clip, the driver was ott, and according to the road code the cyclists were both in the right and in the wrong, depending on what section you read. What gets me is how many people vehemently defend their right to obnoxious behaviour, blindly claiming that only one group or the other have more rights. I don't know about some people, but I don't want to be the squashed or the squasher.

mrfxit, Feb 11, 2:39am
LOL yea a brother many years ago got done for exceeding 30mph (42mph I think) in town ( Hawera)

it's regular for the likes of Tour De France to exceed 80kph on the down hill sections while riding in a pack.

For me, this sentence sums it up! I don't understand why people get so impatient to the point they risk lives. For what? A few minutes? Kill one and you will lose more than a few minutes, and your life will never be the same. Really worth it?

woki, Feb 11, 4:04am
I do get it , the cyclists are in the wrong !

peja, Jun 23, 5:13am
I ride to and from work most days except certain shifts, so mostly urban. Ocassionally ride on rural roads, but quite a lot of rural roads really arent suitable for cyclists as they are too narrow and do not have consistent verges to ride in.

Those cyclists really should have been in single file on that road. I always ride single file, but then there's only ever one of me.

As above I too never want to be the squasher or squashee
