By between the seats do you mean behind the gear shift and its a block of two blanking plugs and one switch?--if so its the snow button. -Turns snow mode on your gearbox on

It just tells the gearbox to drive off in second gear to try and avoid wheelspin.

Yes it is--but not just snow -snow like conditions.-softish sand etc
