If that was a new import as opposed to one that had a lapsed rego, maybe they have to do more work? I think I paid $450 - same place, but with a LVVTA plate, so much of the car had already been through other systems.

I did most of the work myself at the compliance shop so saved quite a bit.

The fixed costs of compliance are $400-$600.
Then you need to allow for all/any repair costs to bring it up to scratch such as tyres, brake pads, any other SAFETY related mechanical issues Also corrosion repairs and accident damage repairs that don't meet the standards required.
On top of that you need to pay the cost of registration which is around $250 -$400 depending on the vehicle.

Everyone has correctly answered the heading - then there's rego on top.

Just paid $417.39 for compliance.
+ they had to suck out a bit of brake fluid, tap out a cross threaded bolt hole holding a seat down and sign off none original rear brake pads. All for $80.
Add GST, and the bill was $572.
12 months rego and plates etc, was another $354.53
